I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet, currently 1-0, Glendon is on the mount today, Cubs murdered the reds on Monday by playing small ball, I must admit they looked quite impressive.
Now if they can get some sense and get Kerry Woods in relief(Move that should've been made last year) and get Prior healthy it's going to be an interesting season.
By the way Zambrano's theme every year is "I'm going to act mature this season".....right......he almost beheaded someone with a fastball monday, but needless to say I got a chuckle out of it, NOW Show the love damnit!!

Prior isn't exactly out, they are threating him with gloves because he had that issue with his ankle and was sored earlier in the spring season after throwing(Elbow/shoulder soreness). Kerry Woods is just a mess, he finds a way to hurt himself even when he's at home drinking beer. I still think that 11 million dollars can be better spend if he comes out as a relief, hell Smoltz did that for a few years and worked out great.
I haven't seen everyone pitch this year. Zambrano was impressive monday and would've gotten the win if he had kept his cool. Rush pitched 4 innings today and the bullpen is holding out decent.

^^^The Braves have had their fair share of bad luck in their history. see Randy Johnson two seasons ago. The Cubs are pretty bad this year though. 7/17/2006 9:45:30 AM |

jim hendry had better fucking dump todd walker right now. i don't care if all he can get for him is a pack of big league chew. in my entire life of playing and watching games, i have never been as pissed off as i was watching my cubs last night. 7/17/2006 3:45:15 PM |

todd walker has been a huge asset the last few years
but I wouldnt be surprised if he is traded, as it has been rumored heavily 7/17/2006 4:04:09 PM |

todd walker's bat helped us out a tad bit during d. lee's downtime this season, but he has never been a gold glover caliber second baseman. and his 'me first / refusal to take blame' comments in recent weeks are totally uncalled.
the sad part is that his shitty trade value took a major downturn during the recent mets series. 7/17/2006 7:02:04 PM |

BTT for Kerry Wood's annual official season ending injury
Quote : | "CHICAGO - Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood has decided against having surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.
Wood made just four starts this season following shoulder surgery on Aug. 31 and will miss the rest of the year with a partially torn rotator cuff. He hopes to come back next season as a reliever.
The right-hander announced his plans after Wednesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks was postponed by rain. The teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday.
Arizona's Juan Cruz (3-6) will start the opener against Carlos Marmol (4-4), and Enrique Gonzalez (3-2) will be on the mound in the second game for the Diamondbacks against Juan Mateo, who will be making his major league debut.
Wood based his decision on advice he received from doctors and players that had similar injuries.
"I think anytime you can avoid surgery that's what you need to do," said Wood. "In the situation right now, at this time surgery is not the best option."
Wood has been on the disabled list nine times in his career and his future is uncertain with the Cubs. With the club holding a $13.5 million contract option on the 28-year-old for next season, there is a possibility he may have pitched his final game for the Cubs. Wood's deal includes a $3 million buyout.
Wood hasn't been able to discuss his future with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry yet.
"I haven't. A lot of stuff going on his end and stuff on my end, we haven't talked about that, but I think I would rather stay here, but I think it something we need to talk about when the time is right," said Wood.
Wood, who is 71-55 in his career, began the season on the DL. After being activated, he went 1-2 with a 4.12 ERA in four starts before going back on the injured list June 7. He was on the DL three times last season, the final time on Aug. 30, one day before his surgery.
Wood, who made the decision a week ago, will return to Arizona to begin a rehab process." |
