http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1153AP_McKinney_Scuffle.html?source=mypi

but ive got a question. i seem to remember hearing or reading that there was something either in the constitution or the US Code, stating that members of congress can not be arrested or detained by civil authorities when they are on their way to a session.

If this is true, I would guess it goes back to the early days when people were worried that political opponents could conspire to arrest or detain a member of congress on something superficial in order to prevent them from voting on some issue or other.

i mean obviously this doesnt protect them from beign censured, impeached, and/or prosecuted for committing criminal acts, and "on their way to a session" is a pretty narrow area, but couldnt she claim self-defense in light of this (supposed) protection?

any of you legal types ever heard of this? im tired of google right now.

i will not defend mckinney. she's obviously a screwball

BUT, does anyone else find it hilarious and depressing that the grand jury is hearing this case instead of MUCH more important issues?

She's like... "uh oh, I dun* fucked up"

*legal disclaimer: (because in this day and age, especially with the two high media issues that supposedly regard race, I believe its necessary)

I am not saying "Dun" because she is black and "thats how they talk" I am just saying it because ignorant people, without regard to race say stupid things. thank you.

So apparently, one time she lost an election and when somebody asked her dad why she lost, he was like "One word: JEWS."

you're kidding right? grand juries indict ham sandwiches if the prosecutor asks them to, the idea that this is somehow detracting from somewhere else is...well...stupid

yes, the protection you're talking about is accurate. it's a long-time civil privilege in the Constitution

Quote :
"They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place."

but in this case, she wouldn't be able to claim self-defense -- someone violating the civil privilege law doesn't authorize the Congressperson to engage in criminal activity as a result

You're right - the lying racist bitch can't be arrested while Congress is in session. What will happen, is when an indictment is handed down, the judge will issue an arrest warrant to become effective as soon as the Speaker declares the House to be in adjournment.
