friends of mine had Lin for 425, and they couldn't stop talking about how weird/crazy/lax he was. 4/10/2006 1:17:10 PM |

I had him for 515. He kinda jumps around when he lectures. I prefer it when one sentence logically follows from the other, but he was pretty easy on grading (not too picky) etc...
Not weird or crazy,imo.
I have no experience with him in undergrad classes though. Don't know if much would change but he might grade harder. 4/10/2006 1:36:49 PM |

mccollum is insanely easy, just find someone with the webassigns.
I'm taking her now and have them, all webassigns are due the day before the test and the tests are all the easiest problems from the material you could possibly have. Just don't skip class, she gives you 10 points on the final and replaces your worst test grade. 4/14/2006 11:08:38 AM |

it's only hard if you are the one who actually did the problems. Try joining a frat or military organization and poof it gets real easy... 4/17/2006 8:44:39 PM |

you have to do webassign in ma 241 now?
that blows 4/17/2006 10:12:02 PM |

some sections have webassign, some don't. I don't consider it cheating really, if the professors are too lazy to change the homework it's not the student's problem. Of course the more honest students suffer, this is one of many reasons not to use Webassign
All professors should assume that the class knows what has been assigned in previous offerings of the course. Webassign as an organization is uber-lazy, the problems for ma 241 have remained essentialy unchanged for a number of years now. For the current text Stewart the problems that you get are the problems that Webassign has to give. They haven't coded much more that what the typical section of ma 241 offers. It could be fixed by simply allowing us to offer problems from other text books or at least coding many more problems, or randomizing more problems,... long story short, Webassign needs to do alot more work mixing up the problems or else organizations like frats will easily thwart whatever proposed difficulty Webassign was supposed to give.
I guess I'm just oldschool, I think homework should be done on paper and graded by actual living people. Without some real work by Webassign, it is way better to just do homework on your own and check it with classmates and your professor. 4/17/2006 10:49:39 PM |

the one thing worse than webassign is maple...god that shit is even worse. NEVER changes, shit most of the problems have the same numbers too. I think it is absurd that students have to do class homework, webassign, and maple. I agree with mathman 100% the homework should be on paper and turned in and graded that way. 4/18/2006 12:42:53 AM |

Mccollums awesome if you want to actually learn something and come out of that class smarter than before.
What's great about her is that I came out of MA 141 knowing nothing (I got a C- in the class only cuz Siewert didn't wanna see me again) and she worked my ass off, but I came out with a B. She drops your lowest test grade, which is kickass, and her teaching is perfect if you're "average" at calculus. Smartass people might find it boring but hey, that means more sleeping time for you. 4/18/2006 12:47:27 AM |

i agree...and in general (for subjects like math and physics), it also takes care of stupid formatting errors, which lead to a lot of frustration among students..
turning assignments on paper can give teachers a better idea of exactly how much the students have absorbed in class...however, webassigns may mean less TAs, and that in turn does save money, so we may have them for a while..but i still think that if not all, atleast a significant number of questions should be turned in on paper4/18/2006 1:07:12 AM |
