I dig it, and I never really had a place in my heart for most trucks. exceptions include things like srt10s, tacoma x-runners, things that really can't do the trucky stuff because they're busy thinking they can be sporty cars...

This has me wondering why they didn't just go and try to lighten up the cherokee a bit, update its styling, and put a diesel in it.

Seems excessive to kill a car that was plenty nice for however many years, then make a longer, four door wrangler that will kind of "replace" it.

I also wonder how damn expensive it will be to get this (vs a cherokee as well).

I'm pretty sure the wrangler is a better starting place of any kind for an off-roader than the relatively compromised fj cruiser, h3, and xterra. All of those started with components designed for use on a wider, longer-wheelbase pickup truck and were then slapped under an suv that had to be careful how it managed interior space and trendy looks. We know that the wrangler is probably the most capable stock production setup, and that longer-wheelbase models like the previous unlimited did little to compromise it's performance, except perhaps in a few really rocky high-centering situations, right? So with the new wrangler's disengageable roll bars, and prodigious RTI, which, faulty measure or not, is something other manufacturers aren't even touting, I can't see it descending in performance off-road from the swb wrangler's performance all the way down to nearly cute-ute.
