how do you got about getting your slack ass roomates to pick up after themselves and unload the dishwasher on an at least semi-regular basis?
4/11/2006 12:39:35 PM
ive been the sole vacuumer in this house for months
4/11/2006 12:40:08 PM
go out of town for a week. hey, it worked for me.
4/11/2006 12:40:15 PM
if you start putting dirty dishes in their bed, and in their room, and move their "mess" into their own personal space, they'll get the pointGive them a warning before you do it though. Then follow through to make your point.
4/11/2006 12:49:26 PM
Ask them politely to share the load of chores around the place. Politely is the key word; you attract more bees with honey. If it continues, then you have the right to piss in their shampoo.
4/11/2006 12:49:39 PM
thats not a bad idea
4/11/2006 12:49:46 PM
beat they ass
4/11/2006 12:49:54 PM
haha, i used to have the same problem until i did what minime did a while ago. It was so funny. i am good friends with all of my roomates though. but one day i threw a bowl full of spaghetti in this one guys bed who always leaves shit in the sink. It was awesome and the next day i dumped the trash out in his room bc it had been his turn to take it out for like 4 days.
4/11/2006 12:52:20 PM
oh my godddddddd that is awesome. did you warn them first?
4/11/2006 12:52:57 PM
if by warn them you mean told them to take out the trash for 3 days
4/11/2006 12:54:00 PM
ok yeah, it's my roomates month to take the trash out (we agreed on there being a 3 bag maximum in the laundry room). there are 8 bags in there now.
4/11/2006 12:55:20 PM
let me guess, Uhouse?[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 12:56 PM. Reason : d]

wolf creek
4/11/2006 1:02:39 PM
are the dumpsters there really far away from anything as well?
4/11/2006 1:05:04 PM
actually, there was one about 15 yards away until sunday. now they are far away. but there were 7 bags on sunday so i'm not letting her use that as an excuse
4/11/2006 1:08:17 PM
that trash would be in her room yesterday
4/11/2006 1:10:21 PM
4/11/2006 1:10:59 PM
even besides the trash, does everyone have problems with not being able to do your own dishes because your roomates shit is piled up so high in the sink
4/11/2006 1:12:21 PM
Again, tell them bitches to get in the kitchen (male or female) and wash their dishes. I don't understand why it is so difficult to confront a roommate about their filth. If nothing is said, then the problem will continue. You don't have to be a dick about it, just let them know for crying out loud.
4/11/2006 1:15:22 PM
ahahah when i confront my one roomate, she takes it super personally and cries!!! and then i feel like a huge bitch. how do i approach her without making her cry.
4/11/2006 1:16:28 PM
tell her to quit being such a girl, then live with guys. we just argue about it for a minute then whoever is in the wrong does their fucking dishes and it is over
4/11/2006 1:17:55 PM
who gives a fuck if she cries. tell her to clean up.
4/11/2006 1:18:59 PM
i know. i really want guy roomates, they are so much less estrogen filled and wussy.
4/11/2006 1:20:06 PM
Unless you want to continue to sidestep garbage bags in order to do your laundry, then you'll have to feel like a bitch.
4/11/2006 1:21:20 PM
yeah just do something crazy about it. if they dont want to be your friends anymore or feel that you are attacking them personally, then apparently you werent that good of friends to begin with. and tell them that
4/11/2006 1:22:26 PM
4/11/2006 1:23:07 PM
It's not being a bitch to tell someone to clean up. It's called you pay rent there too and don't want to play mommy to your roommates.
4/11/2006 1:23:39 PM
you can'tno matter what changes you make, they will all be undone within a few days
4/11/2006 1:23:45 PM
^^^ [Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:24 PM. Reason : mas de ^ por favor]
4/11/2006 1:23:50 PM
just ask her if her mom let her get away with never doing anything
4/11/2006 1:25:15 PM
yeah thats the problem! they never had to do chores and shit at home, so now i'm their mommy. and the one that cries does have major problem, when she cries it just pisses me off more...so maybe i will just throw the damn trash in her room.
4/11/2006 1:26:44 PM
Her mom probably did, otherwise she wouldn't cry if someone asked her to take out the trash. [Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:28 PM. Reason : Inappropriate ]
4/11/2006 1:26:56 PM
4/11/2006 1:29:48 PM
And when she cries, you either walk away or do it yourself. Then she laughs.
4/11/2006 1:32:54 PM
^^ sounds good. i'm going to do it now
4/11/2006 1:35:16 PM
ask her again to take out the trash since its her turn and remind her again that you don't like to constantly unload the dishwasher. if she makes an excuse ask her when she's going to do it, and if she cries and shuts her door pile the trashbags outside her door and she'll have to move them or step over them to get out. or you can just start taking out your own trash and moving the bags to a place where they are going to get in your roommate's way if she doesn't take our her own trash. with the dishes, just unload what you need and let them pile up so that somebody else HAS to do something about it. if you have a dry erase board set up a roomie meeting and make a schedule and keep it in the living room to show who should do what when lol, although I've heard of this backfiring with a roomie who takes everything super personally (then again this was with 4 guys, and the one who took everything personally had a girlfriend who would clean his room and bathroom sometimes).
4/11/2006 1:37:53 PM
yeah that is a good way to do it. just tell her that it is her responsibility. noone likes to be called irresponsible.
4/11/2006 1:38:01 PM
4/11/2006 1:41:43 PM
Yeah thats why you sometimes have to inconvenience them if the "its your responsibility" doesn't work, like run out of clean dishes (although this also inconveniences the others who live there)
4/11/2006 1:45:43 PM
Sadly, the only thing that will probably work is a) moving out or b) if you're on the lease and she's not, asking her to move out. At least you know you don't want to live with her next year. Some people just have a very high "filth tolerance." Telling someone like this to clean up is not going to work. You can try, but she will not change. Some things that bug me, like crumbs and jelly left for infinity on the counter or table, might not bother you. Then again, I am not that big of a freak about the carpet being regularly vacuumed, so I hardly ever do it, and that might get on your nerves. But, more than one full bag of garbage piled up is definitely over the line, and most people would agree. Doesn't it stink? Cut your losses as soon as you can and find roommates who are not lazy swine.
4/11/2006 2:05:04 PM
just kill them and clean the mess up yourself. thats is the only logical way out
4/11/2006 2:14:36 PM
that was my original plan, but i dont have anything that would get blood out of the carpet
4/11/2006 2:19:25 PM
havent you ever seen american psycho, just lay out plastic first
4/11/2006 2:20:37 PM
put the trash in their room minus the 3 that are allowed to be in the laundry room
4/11/2006 2:21:17 PM
My previous roommate was so lazy. She would leave her clothes in the washer until they mildewed and then would bitch at me for taking them out because they got "crinkly" and she would randomly do stuff to help clean and stop halfway through and leave, say, a bucket of dirty mop water downstairs for 2 weeks. There are a few things you can do.-Sit them down and inquire how they feel about the chores(if they think they are equal, etc) and tell them of the things you are unhappy with and wish for them to change.-Leave it until they do something about it. I started handwashing my own dishes and just left the sink and dishwasher full until she did something about it.-Remind them of it constantly because, hell, you're reminded each day you walk into the house. Bug the shit out of them. Not my favorite approach but maybe it will get them on the ball.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 2:39 PM. Reason : *]
4/11/2006 2:36:59 PM
4/11/2006 2:40:58 PM
Yeah hints hardly ever work in this situation because 9.9 times out of 10 they don't even know they are doing something wrong or something that bothers you so much.
4/11/2006 3:06:35 PM
I had the same problem. I had asked and asked that they help and clean up around the house. Nothing worked, so I told them I would add $100 to each ones rent for the "maid service" (me). Well, they thought it was a joke...until they came home and I had shut every utility off (was all in my name). Ever since then we have had no problems
4/11/2006 3:52:22 PM
^That's a good idea. A female friend of mine shared a house with my cousin and 2 other guys, and she charged them each $30 a month to clean the 2 bathrooms. They thought it was a good deal, and she didn't fret about the fact that she was the only one who ever cleaned it.Also, with some people, alternation of chores will never work. Maybe ask her which chores she doesn't mind doing, then let her have those all the time in exchange for officially never doing a few chores she hates. I'm not saying this is fair to you, but it might work better than you doing everything because she always misses her turn.
4/11/2006 4:03:46 PM
^i like that one. because i dont mind doing dishes and taking out trash but i hate vaccuming and cleaning the living room. i'll just propose we divide it all up.
