ok look. Amato JUST got here. yes, he had early success when he came in with philip rivers, and he took a hit when he left, but it takes a football coach YEARS to build a good program... much longer than it takes for a basketball team. lets not start calling for Amato's head yet. we worshiped him for 4 years, and have had 2 seasons that half of the season haven't turned out well. (the second half of 2004, and the first half of 2005.)

From what I hear 5 years is the norm at State to do something with the program you coach.

actually, it takes a decade+ to build a good program. That's why there isnt much upward mobility in football

Third that, Amato is the most overrated coach ever. Our offensive coord can run circles around him in terms of coaching, but Chuck does bring in a lot of money for the program.

All it takes to be a great college coach is to motivate your players, recruit good players, and get the fuck out of the way of the good assistants you hire.

I think Chucky is learning that last one, but its taken a little too long.

Amato is a good coach. he is building the program up from the days of 4 win seasons. give him TIME. it takes TIME to build up a good program. fuck, bobby bowden could have come to raleigh and taken 10 years to build up a program in his prime.

Amato has to prove he can win consistently without Rivers...
his seat isn't hot yet, but it's warm, and warming...
as for the "it takes 10 years to build a program"... well that's a thoroughly lovely sentiment, but i'd like for you to name the football coach we've given 10 years to... name one that anyone has given 10 years to and only gotten 1 season with 9 wins or more... at least in any successful program...

since you mentioned Bobby Bowden, let's look at his record for his first 5 years...

5-6
10-2
8-3
11-1
10-2

hmmm....

ok good point.

i just pulled that name out of my ass. it still takes time to build a good solid program though... maybe not in bowden's case.

if we dont make a bcs bowl by his 8th year, then it should be pretty clear we're not going to make one. if we're happy with the occasional peach bowl, then sure, keep him. he's par for the course at nc state.

i dont see us moving up that far. i doubt we make the bcs ever, seriously.

btw, i set 8 as the magic year, b/c it took Frank Beamer that long to get VT to the Orange Bowl, and VT was garbage when he arrived.

Hell, Bill Snyder took K-State from 0-11 to the Fiesta Bowl in 7 years.

haha, the elite 8 would be like a BCS bowl...except easier cause you dont have to win your conference and just making the tournament (like just making a bowl game) gives you a chance, when you can just make a bowl game and thats it.

I wont be mad if we dont make a BCS game, but we need to at least be in contention or make the ACC championship game in the next 3 or 4 years.

This year would be a good opportunity, too bad our entire team peaced out. Better luck next year. I'm not expecting jack this football season, I just wanna see big hits and a few touchdowns.
