Yea, I wonder how that is going to turn out...
Who commands the military? Can't the president and legislature get together and start ignoring the religious council? Oh yea, right, no one reform minded can get on the ballot... Does anyone here know enough about the Iranian political system to suggest a non-violent means of forced reform? 4/13/2006 9:52:25 AM |

Iran has every right to have nukes... as much as any sovereign country does. especially nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. nuclear energy is they best source of power we have these days. 4/13/2006 10:00:28 AM |

wait it out. iran has a ton of young people, most of whom are very western. the guys in charge are old and scary.
if that wont work then i dont think there is anything peaceful to do. 4/13/2006 10:38:21 AM |

^ But what are they going to do? launch 100 days of street protests? The government representatives don't have the authority to conceed. Storming the bastille and killing the members of the religious court doesn't sound very plausible. 4/13/2006 10:49:01 AM |

n. korea and iran are different situations
n. korea is just crazy
iran does have a history of exporting terrorism, this is basically proven, unlike in the iraq situation
that being said, using nuclear weapons against them for anything other than a retalitory strike, caused by an attack by WMD's, is out of the question 4/13/2006 3:17:50 PM |
rjrumfel All American 23027 Posts user info edit post |
Yes, I realize that nuclear weapons used against Iran would be a bit much. That was just a figure of speech.

They aren't going to nuke us...at least not directly.
And if they did, no...there aren't enough conventional bombs in the world to do what would be in order. 4/24/2006 1:18:01 AM |

Iran doesnt have the capability to reach the US with a nukular missile.
they could reach israel, however.
which is effectively the same thing.
since the Jews secretly control our country.

conventional bombs can only reach so far underground. If Iran has deeply buried and/or heavily fortified nuclear installations (which is suspected), our current conventional weapons cant reach them from the air.
the only way to reach such a deep and fortified installatin from air is with a nuke, because the shockwave from a direct groundstrik will travel some 80-100 meters below the surface.
unfortunately, the since detonation occurs only a few meters below ground, it will send all the nuclear material into the air with the traditional mushroom cloud. so you have to also start calculating megadeaths.
we are reportedly tryiing to develop a super-duper bunker-busting conventional warhead that can reach as deep as a groundstrike nuke. I dont think its coming along very well, although the SecDef hasnt briefed me on the latest progress yet... or, well... ever.4/24/2006 1:56:19 AM |

The youth of Iran are not gonna protest when everyone in the world acts like they are out to get them. They support their leader because he doesn't concede to the west. They think that having a strong leader is better than looking like a bunch of pansies. So good luck with that revolution. Its not gonna happen til we back the hell off. 4/24/2006 10:22:18 PM |

You know I pondered at first why we dont send in a team of snipers to take this nutjob out, then it occured to me. If someone assasinated him, even if his own people didnt like him, it would draw them together agains whomever or whatever country did the assasination.
And of course, everyone would look to us as culprits. 4/26/2006 7:33:48 PM |
