that still doesn't excuse why he's put on almost 30lbs and stopped working out the rest of his body. He'll have to get a torn hamstring fixed via surgury, which will make him a hell of a gamble now. I bet he drops to the second or third round as a result. 4/14/2006 9:29:15 AM |

aka , I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about so I will give my unvalued opinion.
30lbs? he weighed 238 at the combine, 244 at the USC pro day, 6 pounds, and claimed he was at 252 during the rose bowl, and could obviously still run. I still cannot find where he was 30 pounds overweight

oh my, obviously a 'hell of a gamble' as a running back

i think the hammy injury is slightly not as bad as they are making it seem, i think he is using it as an excuse for not running and being out of shape at the combine. thats the only reason i could think of for him haveing a chiropracter diagnose the injury as oppossed to a orthopedist or medical doctor 4/14/2006 6:47:02 PM |

with all the money at stake from say being the 10th overall pick to say being the 32nd overall pick i dont know many people that rather win right off the bat than getting the only guaranteed money that they are ever certain off cut in half or worse for the chance to play for a winner. yeah winning is great but so is a big signing bonus and lets face it if his career is long enough he wil probably get to play for a winner at some point, but this could potentially be his only shot at a big signing bonus. 4/14/2006 9:52:03 PM |

he is when he was running behind the USC offensive line.
I also like how you listed all the weights he was at when he played, but failed to mention the weight he came to the combine at. All the scouting reports claimed he had put on nearly 20lbs and stopped working out since the Rose Bowl, and he was a little over his ideal weight at the Rose Bowl. The NFL won't tolerate that shit from a running back.
and as far as his bench press, that has absolutely nothing to do with his squat strength or his quads. a lot of running backs have overdeveloped quads with weak hamstrings, and they end up with pulled hamstrings as a result.4/14/2006 10:11:38 PM |

I'm telling you a medical fact. go read up on it if you're too fucking stupid to already know this.
As far as your other numbers, where'd you get them from? I doubt every scout and reporter in the nation would be bitching about the weight he put on if he actually lost weight. 4/15/2006 1:37:06 AM |
BeerzNBikes All American 3736 Posts user info edit post |
Well regardless of how much he weighs and how lazy he was I think the panthers need to pick him up if he is available by 26th pick. The last time we had a bruiser back that was worth a shit we went to the superbowl and deshaun thrived behind him. The panthers need a back like him to jump start our offense and he is young enough to be that guy for years to come.
I would be lazy also at USC if bush was starting ahead of me and we were blowing everyone out (except the amazing rosebowl game).
Bottomline: He should be able to contribute immediately (assuming the diagnosis is true). The word is out about any laziness or attitude problems he may have. I am sure any team that drafts him will watch him like a hawk and not let him go down the tubes because of the $$ they are paying him. Wouldnt be surprised if part of his contract had a stay-in-shape clause. The guy is a freakin battering ram of a back. 4/15/2006 4:21:14 PM |

damn, that sure looks like the same numbers i had up above. USC's info lists him at 235, which, weighing 244 would not make him "almost 30 pounds overweight"4/15/2006 10:11:09 PM |

that's the number that's really in question here. his regular season stats said 230, and that's the weight he appeared to be at during the Rose Bowl. By not working out, he would have lost several pounds of muscle, yet he came to the USC pro day at 244. that's easily 20lbs overweight, but probably closer to 30 if he looked as bad and as weak as everyone claims.4/15/2006 10:13:37 PM |

252-230 = 22 244-230 = 14 a players published weight is almost always under what their top form weight is. is it possible that when he said "im not right physically" that he meant he was not right physically and maybe that he looked weak because he was sick or in pain and not because he was lazy? 4/15/2006 10:30:56 PM |

your math isn't right. first off, you know the 252 number is bullshit. Second, his LBM would have dropped significantly when he stopped exercising - probably around 10lbs or more.
so your equation should have looked like 244 - 230 = -10lbs muscle + 24lbs fat.
but you can keep arguing all you want to. There's a reason you will never be NFL scouts, and the people that are agree with me. and as far as being scrawny, that has everything to do with understanding body composition.4/16/2006 10:45:30 AM |

as far as the numbers being off, you would know that were true if you knew anyone that played college sports. the only people that have their true weight listed beside their names are collegiate wrestlers. from highschool to college stats are inflated, except wrestling, and even then the weights become less accurate is they switch weight classes in time for 'lockdown' weigh-ins late in the season 4/16/2006 9:42:30 PM |

^ i know this, I am aware that people inflate height and weight, I just think its funny that he tells me I dont know anyone in college sports at the correct height/weight and thats definitely not true at all, some players are misrepresented, but I doubt LenDALE White's is too far off, he is a big back, and I think people would notice if he was only a few pounds heavier than Bush during the season...
I also think lendal ewould be an awesome addition for carolina, I could see him shoring up their running alot.
