ahh, I had mine out last Thursday - my oral surgeon must've done one helluva job, because I was back on solid foods within 2 days.

The first thing I tried was pita with hummus (which was great seeing that all I'd had for the past 36 hours was soup and jello), but if you're not up for that try oatmeal so you can at least get a bit of energy.

put the insides of a taco bell soft taco in a blender...sounds gross, but actually tastes pretty good...probably the most flavor you're going to get right now

I actually think you're not supposed to eat grits. The pieces get stuck and can cause an infection.
Pudding. It's not a real food, but it tastes good.

I'm supposed to get mine out soon, during Summer Session I. My surgeon said it would take only 30 minutes and he'd just cut 'em out and I'd be fine to go back to school on Monday (after getting it Friday morning/afternoon)

i'm stil numb and have already taken a percocet, but i'm not in pain and i'm not swollen at all.

i brought an ice pack with me to the place and started icing them right after i became conscious in the car, apparently only took about 1:45 to get in there, wait for about 30 minutes, have the surgery, and get out.

Mine came in fine, I didn't have to get them out.

I guess I am lucky.

What is up with wisdom teeth? What the hell did people do before surgery?

^ kept em?

in england they only remove them if they cause problems, i had mine out before they were starting to cause pain as they were all impacted and quite close to the nerve that supplies feeling to your lower lip area, so i would have had to have em out anyway at some point

my dad didn't ever genetically have wisdom teeth, damnit

i was just bull shittin, my dentist said that i probally won't ever have to get mine taken out, unless i want to b/c they're pretty much all the way in with room to spare.

But, one of my friends in hs had his removed and the dentist said that the roots of the top ones were growing into his nasal cavity, and it would have caused serious probs had he not removed them so soon.

^you typically want to stay away from rice as it can easily get caught in the sockets

and yeah, I had a frosty from wendy's as soon as I was able to.

Got mine taken out this morning. Still have my mouth packed with gauze. Does it normally take ~6 hours to stop bleeding?

^ aw so i'm not alone!

mine bled for a bit, i had gauze in on the ride home and for about an hour once i got home (after i took one of my pain pills and ate some applesauce) - around 2pm i took them out (surgery done at around 10:30-11:00AM) and i've had a bit of blood on my mouth since then but nothing major.

yeah i'm going to goodberry's tonight (on my parents dime mind!) and taking my little sister to walk around state so I can show her harrelson and poe (she's going to summer classes there)

i've had ice on my cheeks all day and apparently don't look swollen at all and am taking this a lot better than most, so woo hoo!

hm.... i wonder if i could make a frozen margarita and have that in leiu of a smoothie? mmmmm margarita!

I ate overcooked pasta within a few days of having mine out.
I was lucky, because the way my work schedule was I managed to get a whole week off after having them out. I just laid around in a roxicet haze all week long.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this...I didn't read it all...but mac and cheese is soft enough...and if you want something salty you can suck on saltine crackers and let them kinda desolve in your mouth

^ mmm mac and cheese, i think thats on my plate for lunch tomorrow

i tried drinking a v8 but it made one of my holes kind of sore, i figured it has a high sodium content so it might just be becuase the wound is fresh, i want my 2 servings of veggies damnit

drinking loads of water, having loads of jello, and generally sitting around on my arse tonight, as i feel fine but i can't apparently drive on the pain killers (damnit)

this may be a repeat but jello, i love it anyways.

it all depends on how well it went, and how much of a pain tolerence u have, but best of luck

Is there any way to tell if you actually even have them? short of going to a dentist and having xrays or finding an old dentist to ask assuming they stilll have the records?

My dad only had 2, and both sides of my family have been known to not have 1-2 permanant teeth buds.

i'm beginning to hope that I dont have them at all *22 and no sign yet, crossing fingers*

^^ Well, if they start to push your other teeth out of the way, you'll know you've got them (and a problem, at that).

X-ray's probably the easiest way to do it.

When I had mine out I was fifteen, and it sucked, but I had these frozen smoothies, the luigi's italian ice, and jello. Oh yeah, also applesauce and juice. The third day after they were out I was enjoying some hamburger meat. God that stuff was delicious (with just a bit of salt, it was the richest food I'd eaten in days).

Not to disgust anyone, but I'm curious, did anyone puke up blood (say, twice) after they had theirs out? I was fine after that, but I guess they bled me out a lot during surgery ( ).

Yeah, I wonder why they are called wisdom teeth anyway...

Also, eat mashed potatoes (the instant ones come in different flavors). You can also puree veggies or chicken and put it in the potatoes for some extra energy.

jello, pudding, ice cream

freezer pops or popsicles

milkshakes

I say no to grits as well- little pieces can get stuck- an infection is not a fun thing to have in your wisdom wound

I got the infection....it tasted like piss

I couldn't eat for two days because I felt like tossing up my stomach lining. But my brother was smoking and drinking the nexy day. We both had pudding...and my boyfriend put pieces of bread in my mouth so I could suck the fiber out of them...heh...and soggy cerel. yum yum

And I bled for a day. Brother bled for about 8 hours and they poked through his nasal cavity. Boyfriend's came in perfect so he doesn't have to cut them out.

Then my brother proceeded to tell me that after he got his first two taken out, he went out and smoked trees and got shatfaced the same night. Stupid teenagers. (He's 29 now)
