Would a celeron D at 2.53ghz be enough for my parents? they're using a p3 933mhz right now with 512mb ram.
my mom uses photoshop, so would it really be necessary to get a pentium d?
other than photochop, they just do the normal shit. 4/16/2006 12:59:45 PM |

it'd be fine if they are used to a 933. for photoshop just make sure there is plenty of ram, I had a huge (up to 5x faster) increase in certain filters and effects when I went from 1 gig to 2 gig. 4/16/2006 1:04:02 PM |

Adobe products for the most part seem to be afflicted witha bottomless hunger for more memory. So yeah, celeron with 2 gigs of ram would be fine for them probably, though what two chips are you looking at exactly and what's the price difference? 4/16/2006 1:15:09 PM |

OK, i'll make sure she has 1gb of ram. that will be good for her i think since she isn't a heavy photoshop user.
There is a dell celeron 2.53ghz for $224 shipped to them they can get after the included monitor is sold on ebay.
it only comes with 256mb ram, but i'll just get an extra 512 for them... if photoshop for her is still bad we'll just get another 512 later.

My current comptuer is a Pentium D 805 (2x2.66ghz) with 1GB ram - it has no issues with Photoshop/ InDesign at all.
As has been pointed out here already - RAM is more important than the processor for Adobe products - 1GB minimum, 2GB wouldn't be overkill. 4/16/2006 1:19:04 PM |

celeron d is what i'm wondering about though, i know a pentium d will do just fine w/ the right amount of ram for photoshop.
for me to build a system with a dual core instead it'd be $260 + hard drive + $30 dvd drive + power supply (only have a 300 laying around, so probably wouldn't work with a pentium d would it?)

If it uses integrated graphics 300 watt PSU should be ok. for something with a seperate graphics card 400-450 watts is a better idea. 4/16/2006 2:23:48 PM |

ive been running my system on a 300W for a last few weeks while i wait on my RMA's Antec. I've got a Pentium D 2.8, 2GB RAM, 2 SATA drives + 2 optical drives + ATI X800GTO. Plus the 900 series of the Pentium D are a good deal less power huingry than the 800 series which i have. but yeah, a celeron d should be fine for your parents...more than fine in fact.4/16/2006 4:23:07 PM |

good choice...i have a 3ghz celeron d and it performs admirably against my brother's 2.66ghz p4...and considering the price difference, it's an awesome processor 4/18/2006 11:07:28 AM |

i know it isn't, but there is no reason why someone coming into CC thinking that would be a dumbass. Pentium D's are dual-core... they named it Celeron D... logically it should be dual core 4/18/2006 12:17:15 PM |

Kind of like how the the 486 dx was 33 mhz and 486 dx2 was 66 mhz while the 486 dx4 was only 100 mhz right? Intel is big on deceptive nomenclature. 4/18/2006 2:00:41 PM |
