My dog ran out of my apartment around midnight last night. I tried to go after him but was unable to keep up. I live in Walnut Creek apts at the intersection of 40 and Gorman, so if anyone sees him, please let me know! He also has one of those electronic tags that was inserted in him when I got him, so hopefully that will help...

He's an Australian Cattle Dog

Here is the best picture I could find of him...

^^ they're called microchips
and as long as you registered the chip with a recovery service (and they have contact info for you and/or your vet) then if the dog is found and brought somewhere to be scanned - they'll call you.
otherwise it will just beep when scanned and is worthless.

if you know what service the chip is registered with you should contact them to verify they have your correct contact info and let them know its missing.

call animal control and report it missing. if its within raleigh, cary, or garner go to or call the intake facility in garner and let them know. bring a picture by.
Call local vets and petstores and ask if anyone has mentioned finding a dog

fliers are a good idea. walk around your neighborhood and talk to neighbors and let them know its missing and give them your address or number

yeah, he has a microchip with my information...very smart thing, so hopefully he has not been kidnapped by some mexican family who won't turn him in

I am just using this because he got lost in a college area and hopefully a college kid found him

sorry to go off topic, but i think thats bullshit. why cant the contact info stuff be handled at the same time the implant is installed (by the vet)? why place the burden on the owner to complete paperwork and mail it in? all that does is result in more animals being put to sleep.

good luck tho ansonian

^^ because its cost $ to register it with a recovery service

if you adopt from the SPCA they register it for you

but if you get it done at a vet or clinic you have to fill out the paperwork and mail it in (or do it online) with a payment. usually $10-$20 depending.

how does that end up causing more animals to be put down?
its the responsibility of the owner to have the microchip implanted. it only takes 2 minutes to fill it out. if the owner doesnt care enough to fill out a few lines of info then there is a problem.

if the owner really feels that they're incompetant to fill out a simple form then maybe they shouldnt have an animal.

also people move, phone numbers change, animals go to new homes. the information should be updated with the recovery service. the chip is worthless if the wrong phone number or name is registered with the tag.
