Should the university stand for the interests of the professors or the interests of the students, even if the students are supported by the professor?

The answer is:$$$$$$$$$ trumps all

No, football team trumps all. Next is basketball. Then baseball. Then all the other pointless sports we have. Then students/professors can wrestle for the rest.

But all the revenue that the football team and basketball team bring in stays within the athletic department and pays for the other sports. The university budget as a whole comes from the legislature and from tuition and fees. and how are the students supported by the professors? if anything they are supported by us, since we help pay them.

Tuition is only 11% of the schools overall income.that should pretty much tell you where its main focus lies.
