Quote :
"BMW has officially unveiled the new 2007 BMW 335i and 328i coupes, which arrive in U.S. showrooms this September. The 335 has a new 3 litre 300 horsepower inline six-cylinder with twin-turbochargers, high-precision fuel injection, and an all-aluminum crankcase, pushing the car to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. The 335i Coupe will be joined in the U.S. by the 230 horsepower 328i Coupe, which hits 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. In addition to the standard six-speed manual, both models will be offered with an available six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The 2007 3-Series coupe also includes the option of xDrive all-wheel drive for the first time ever in a BMW coupe. It will be available this fall in the 328xi Coupe. Adaptive Xenon headlights and Horizontal LED taillights are standard equipment."

Isn't 300 hp quite weak from a 3 litre TT V6 from a German manufacturer?

Considering that the IS350 and the G35 both produce 300+ hp from 3.5 litre V6's, that's quite weak.

Anyway, UK will get:

320i (tba)
320d (tba)
325i (218 hp)
330i (272 hp)
330d (231 hp)
335i (306 hp)

[US will only get 328i and 335i]

Anyway, it looks orders of magnitude better than the ugly sedan with its ugly front lamps and generic Kia'ish tail lamps. (even Kias look better now)

so, when they put a v8 in that body for the m3, how different will that be from the 6 series... not very

current 3 series: ~180 inches length, ~3300 lbs (with inline 6 engine - v8 will prob. weigh more)
current 6 series: ~190 inches length, ~3700 lbs with v8 engine

yeah yeah, the m3 is supposed to be a pure driver's car, stiff suspension, more aggressive styling, so on... but compared to the original they've lost focus. (original was a foot shorter than the current 3 series and about 500lbs less)

I will admit, it looks nice.

But this thread will probably open up another pandoras box of BMW brown-nosing, and flame wars.

I don't like the body lines on that at all, but the interior looks incredibly nice.

300 from a 3 liter TT is awesome... if this were 1989 and we were talking about a 300zx twin turbo. 300 horses are not worth the bullshit that comes with twin turbos.

I hope that wasn't a serious comment. You're right, 0-60 in 5.3 is unacceptably fucking slow, especially for a entry-level luxury car

^^^how entry level is it? The 335i will be at least $45k.

I know the 3 Series is "entry level" but as far as I'm concerned thats for the base models only.

what's the point of making the 3 series that big?

i read an article about this engine and how BMW could easily make more power from it but they were concerned about the outrage current E46 M3 owners would make since they are coming w/ 333 hp. they didn't want the new 3 series to have more power then the last gen M3.

^ wasn't the old 745 actually a turbo as well? not the 4.5L the name would have you believe.

i think this new 3 series looks really good. i'm glad they didn't fuck it up like they did the 5 and 7 series.

yeah, seems like they've always preferred high compression to forced induction in their gas engines.

i guarantee you that care is VERY conservatively tuned. Just wait for any kind of software or chip to be on the market for it. look at what a chipped Audi 1.8t can make with just a chip. I wouldn't doubt with software this car will be easily competitive with the planned e92 m3.

for the most part, the last turbo bmw was a 2002 (right?). i believe the government pitched a fit about how it was 'not what the country needed at that time'

Kinda hard to believe you guys are so overwhelmed by a girls car. Why not go get a Cabrio and put a turbo in it? You know, make it a manly car

dear slut... Laggy turbos are just turbos built to be more efficient on the top end not the bottom.
(either that or they are poorly designed non bb non water cooled turbos...)
ooohh wait... (i'll just stop there)

a wrx isn't just blowing hot air @6500rpm its still makin power.

all i care is.... is the short block beefy ?
