Do you guys have these LaRouche nutjobs around campus? where do they get these people?

LaRouche is what, like 85 years old or something? he's been running for president on the political lunatic fringe since at least the late 1970's. Has he ever even received 01% of the vote in a presidential election?

in Seattle, i see these idiots downtown passing out their loony tune fliers. they stick copies of his "news" magazine in empty weekly shopper boxes. do these people like read this shit, and say "YEAH, MAN, HE'S SO RIGHT! I'M GOING TO QUIT MY JOB AND JOIN HIS CAMPAIGN!!!!"

really, how do people get hooked into this crap? there must be some hidden benefits to get people to stand around looking like fools for hours on end for no pay.

I'm thinking it must be free group sex. And/or drugs.

Anyone know any LaRouche groupies?

I was in Berkeley last fall and there were LaRouche signs everywhere, and a bunch of people handing out shit (like everyone does all over Berkeley anyway). Some of their literature is fucking hilarious to read. And his followers are like LaRouche zombies... It's crazy-sounding.

from wikipedia entry "Lyndon LaRouche":

Quote :
"
LaRouche has run for the Democratic nomination for President in every election year since 1980, including in 1992 while he was in prison, a record of eight attempts. Generally, electoral support for the LaRouche Movement has been inconsequential ...
"

Quote :
"
Although LaRouche has no formal qualifications, he has written extensively on economic, scientific, political, and cultural topics as part of his political views. Critics regard him as a conspiracy theorist, crackpot, attention-seeker and political extremist, while Chip Berlet, Dennis King, and others have described him as a fascist, a cult leader, and an anti-Semite. He has also been labelled an "unrepentant Marxist-Leninist" by Lt.Gen. Daniel O. Graham, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, along with other high-ranking U.S. intelligence officers. He denies all of these characterizations. His followers regard him as a brilliant individual who has been unfairly persecuted for political reasons
"

i mean his followers are just ... amazing. they are single-minded of purpose. its like some kind of cult. you cant reason with these people.

I saw these guys in Chicago years ago. But I can't ever remember seeing them in Raleigh or on State's campus.

yeah, exactly. Their literature reminds me of Salisburyboy rants. Its always some conspiracy, probably Zionist, and LaRouche apparently is the only one who can figure it out.

and they are like programmed zombies, they speak like "cut and paste". they stand out in the roads and pass out their literature here. they are worse than the Scientologists.

i swear, they must be hooked up with group sex or drugs.

a fascist and a communist? all in one person? DAAAAMMMMNNNN

a small little piece of joy from his site:
Quote :
"July 2, 2005:
John Sigerson, co-author of A Manual on the Rudiments of Tuning and Registration, discusses how the validity of LaRouche's breathroughts in the domain of physical economy, can be verified through the study and performance of such great works of Classical art as J.S. Bach's choral motet "Jesu, meine Freude" and W.A. Mozart's "Ave verum corpus." Hosted by Harley Schlanger and assisted by members of the LaRouche Youth Movement."

thats right, now you too can combine philosophy and economic theory into real solutions involving the "economy of ideas"

LaRouche in the 2000 Democratic primaries actually qualified to receive delegates to the Convention that year from Arkansas by getting 22% of the vote (Bradley was out of the race at this point and the nomination was a formality). The Democratic Party refused to give him any delegates since he did not support the party platform. He took the case to the courts, but the court ruled in favor of the Democrats, saying that LaRouche was not a real Democrat.

His perennial presidential candidacies also ensure he receives money from the federal government for them, although he usually uses the money for his publications.
