so give your opinions... currently looking at the 2500HD crew cab 4wd with the duramax and allison tranny... i know they're coming out with a new model in 07, but the drivetrain will remain the same... goods, bads, others????
yes i've also looked at the powerstroke and know that ford is coming out with the new super duty in the coming year.... but unfortunaletly i can't wait for either company to get their new products to market.....
and don't even mention dodge...
anybody? 4/22/2006 10:59:08 PM |

with the best powertrain of the three? why not? sure the rest is a pos, but you cant beat the cummins4/22/2006 11:16:16 PM |

go with the powerstroke. Ford has an excellent engine, the tranny could use some work, but maybe they will fix that. The suspension on the stroke will take more abuse than that independent crap chevy has. Especially after you put about 8" of lift on it. 4/23/2006 12:33:32 AM |

Dodge's new 48RE is supposed to be a bitchin' automatic. I would take a Cummins any day, as I have a real weakness for six cylinders in a line.
That said, the Duramax is one hell of a great engine, and IH has gotten a lot of bugs worked out of the 6.0 'Stroke. But I still love the Cummins. 4/23/2006 2:49:56 AM |

I love the cummins engine, but hate the look and fit and finish of a dodge, always have, not to mention that their quad cab is smaller than the other two... I've always said... take the cummins, mate it to the allison and put it in a ford.... perfect truck!

Yeah ford trannies... on my 3rd ford and this one has been in the shop for tranny work since the day i bought it... I like the powerstroke, but with a new one coming out later this year you have to wonder why they're revamping it... IFS isn't that bad, hell they're putting it on fire trucks now that take more abuse than anything else on the road. not to mention the ride is a load better and turning radius is also better... no lift will be put on the truck

main use is towing boats right now... but the 'rents are also thinking of getting a 5th wheel camper, so it would be used for that as well... yes I know it's overkill for the boat I have, but I am planning for the future and a 22-23' is in the future (next 5 years) and I don't want to but another truck for a while...

not to mention QUIET... I was amazed at the difference. I also liked the fact that on the allison tranny that you can put it into manual mode and select the gear you want to be in, letting the tranny do the work of helping to slow you down like downshifting in a manual... or being able to lock it into one specific gear when climbing a hill etc... a huge plus for me... not to mention that there is a 5 year 100K mile warranty on the engine from Chevy... and allison.. shoot they make the best tranny on the market hands down... oh yeah and the fact the chevy is about 5K less than the ford!
thanks for the feedback... any others?4/23/2006 8:04:20 AM |

^yeah i agree with everything you say here. I agree that the chevy is a better ride, but ford is not doing bad since they placed coil springs up front. What is the deal with the new stroke coming out? I heard rumors that ford was also going to an inline six. Is that true?

have you seen the new megacab? although i'm a chevy man myself and will still buy one over the other two, that new cummins-powered megacab is the shit. truck would be great if the tranny wasn't shit. same with ford. i firmly believe that chevy is still the best quality you can buy.4/23/2006 5:56:20 PM |

in the 07.5 or 08 model it's a complete truck redesign.. the new stroke is supposed to be a 6.4L twin turbo I think still a V-8, made entirely by international

yes, and wow it's huge... as a matter of a fact it will not fit in the garage... at all... both the super duty and the 2500 will.. the 2500 gives me an additional 7 inches of length to play with

coming from a ford man, i have to agree at this point in time... and hopefully tommorow I will make the deal on an 06 2500HD crew cab duramax 4x4 with the LT3 package... after towing to the lake today in the explorer I can't wait to see how well the duramax handles the boat...4/23/2006 7:48:24 PM |

I've always been a ford guy
the 6.0 in my 250 impresses me alot, esp considering how much power my 7.3 had 4/24/2006 1:47:26 PM |

personally I wouldn't buy the diesel right now, between oil changes, fuel prices being up and everything else not worth the extra cost. Other than that I can say we own currently run 5 fords and have had several chevys (2 of which are still rolling) and as far as lasting longer in a construction environment the fords have always come out better than the chevys. not bias but just factual. Of course I recently bought a Kodiak 7500 and I'm liking it, but it was a hell of a deal (down from $85k to $58k on ebay w/ 2k miles) 4/24/2006 3:15:29 PM |

Not much help, but I love driving my buddy's 05. There's just something awesome about the sound of a turbo diesel. 4/24/2006 5:51:22 PM |

well after a bunch of thought and consideration we decided on a 2006 Silverado 2500HD LT2, Crew Cab 4x4 with the Duramax and Allison Tranny. We are buying it from Hendrick, and they gave us what I consider a great deal (they paid off the trade which was about 3500 in neg. equity) and came down on the sticker. It's got everything except the 10 point power/heated seats, OnStar and XM... other than that it's loaded up... should have it thursday as they had to locate it. can't wait... also they have an 07 avalanche in stock!! wow.. a sharp looking ride, we also drove in a loaded up Tahoe LTZ, with rear view camera and navi... wow, nice ride.. but too rich for my blood...
thanks for everybody's input though, I really did take it into consideration 4/24/2006 11:36:20 PM |
