Anyone know if I can buy the GPS locator alone for Microsoft "Streets and Trips"?

If so, where?

I couldn't find it. I had the original version and couldn't find a way to buy just the locator.

Good Luck!

If you read through the information about Microsoft's GPS locator it mentions a bit about being compatible with some other brands, I think Garmin and some others. That may be more expensive than you are looking for, but it's an option.

so you're saying that you simply want a GPS receiver that need not have any functions other than displaying coordinates?

How does the location feature on a cell phone work? I didn't think it got a signal from the GPS satellites, or did it?

The GPS receiver is a USB -GPS adapter for a computer. It simply receives the signal from all the GPS satellites. The program "Streets and Trips" contains all the software to convert the GPS reciever signal into information that Streets & Trips can display.

I would suggest a stand alone GPS device.

i have been doing it for 3yrs now and haven't gotten in a wreck due to it - you just have to manage your attention

use a touchscreen and a one handed handheld playstation2 keyboard if you must for lots of typing
