so like other than katrina this thing has never really been tapped since bush took office

theres gotta be a ton of barrels in there by now, i just read an article that said bush is suspending the filling of it until fall, and that it would lead to 12 million extra barrels of oil for use

what constitutes an emergency, i mean what if we never actually have to use it and then another energy source like fuel cells are created

any thoughts on the subject?

There are no rules guiding release from the SPR. Whatever the President considers an emergency is good enough.

what % of production goes into the SPR?

is it enough to impact the supply curve, and prices?

don't know the %, but generally [no] -- not filling the Strategic Oil Reserve won't do a thing

The biggest impact will come from W relaxing these fucking idiotic environmental regulations on gasoline blends

if you read the same article i did about Bush suspending deposits to the strategic oil reserve, you read that this amounts to 30 thousand extra barrels of oil per day, when we use 22 MILLION per day ...

this "extra 12 million barrels of oil," at that rate, assumes 400 days of this continuing, and STILL gets us only about half a day's supply TOTAL ..

political grandstanding.

^^ it looks like it's about 0.13 % of the daily supply going to the SPR.

ohhhhhh i understood that wrong

i thought it said 12 million barrels a day go to the reserve, i was like well if we use 20 millioin a day, thats helping us by more than half

my mistake
