Apparantely everyone who speaks the truth about the coaching situation is an asshole...

The coaching search has been a joke and the fans here have had a lot to do with it.

the pecking order will be pretty irrelevant once the season starts again. record is all that matters.

I hate how he verbalrapes us and bitches us out and then is all like "But it's not all States fault and they'll be ok" in the last half of the article.

Take a damn stance already.

These are the exact kind of people who are going to drive the next decent coach out of town.

Look, we don't have to "settle with being behind duke and UNC." But the fact is we are behind them right now. As long as we keep making progress and keep improving, eventually we may pass them. But we shouldn't say to a coach "Take us ahead of these two programs or you're fired."

and I think what all the guys are saying is true. state is a good program, but EVERYONE is behind duke and unc. state just takes it to heart more because they're so close. shit doesn't happen overnight and the team was on the right track. now they've taken a huge step backwards because fans are so fucking impatient and want results NOW

The entire article is posted in the "Realistic Herb replacements" thread - first post on this page:

http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=398275&page=54

And for the record, Forde is completely right. Even before Herb left, I was afraid that if we fired him, he would be Frank Solich and we would be Nebraska - firing a great coach and not having anybody want to come in who would have to live up to extreme expectations. Herb left on his own, but we're still having the same problem filling the position.

pecking order?

if we would have gotten Calipari, then what would they have been saying? i bet all these writers would have been sucking him and State off saying that we'll still be a Top 25 team, and would compete better with UNC and Duke.

^^^. you can bet that all you want. we weren't going to get calipari. we got played for a raise. he stayed at memphis and got more money in a cakewalk conference. don't you get it? even "good and competitive" coaches don't want this job. it's lose-lose in their eyes.

^^ i'm well aware of the Calipari situation and what went down. all i was mainly trying to say is that all of this State bashing in the media would have been different had we gotten a proven big name coach, or just a proven coach.

from what a lot of other coaches have said, they believe the State job is a great job. if Lee Fowler could have just closed the deal with Lavin or Belein we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

from what was reported Belein was actually willing to pay part of the WVU buyout. he's a "good and competitive" coach and that seems like he had a desire to come here, just that Fowler tried to change the deal from what i heard.

aha! 71st was a high school rival, and they were about a 5 minute drive from my school. ahahahahaaha, that's a random as fuck school for him to pull out. i wonder if he's an alumnus.

I can't stand how everyone is all like:

The fans are crazy for demanding State be better than Duke/Carolina...and they ran Sendek off because they were third best.

When in reality, no one really expects us, short-term, to surpass Duke/Carolina. What we do expect is to be competitive with them occasionally.

Forde's on the money for the most part, but he isn't saying anything new. And I still hate how he cracks on us for the first half of the article and then gives a list of reasons why it isn't so bad and it's not our fault for the last half of the article.
