Quote :
"YUBA CITY, Calif. - A taxpayer advocate has complained to Sutter County supervisors that metal detectors at county buildings are so sensitive they are being set off by underwire bras.

Sutter County Taxpayers Association member Roberta Fletcher said the male security guard seemed to enjoy waving the handheld metal detector over her chest.

"It is, at a minimum, for a woman, embarrassing. And at a maximum, it is sexual harassment to hold your arms outstretched while a male officer waves a wand in front of your breasts," Fletcher told supervisors at their meeting Tuesday.

Sheriff Jim Denney said courthouse guards work for the court system, not the sheriff's department, but defended use of the metal detectors.

"That's the nature of the business — to maintain security," Denney told Fletcher. "I'm not going to answer any more absurd questions."

Fletcher also had little sympathy from board Chairman Larry Munger and other supervisors.

"I don't think it's harassment; it's protection," Munger said.

"Men just don't get it," Fletcher told the supervisors."

Can someone just shoot that bitch in the face? Please?

Fuck them. It is not sexual harassment to have a wand passed over your clothed boobs. It would be different if I had metal detectors built into my palms and I was groping her.

She needs to lighten the fuck up. I've been searched at the airport many many many times and they grab just about everything you have to grab. Yeah, you don't especially want that, but I STFU about it and go get on my plane.

There's a fine line between healthy suspicion and rampant paranoia. I can understand how it can make a woman unnecessarily uncomfortable in that situation. I'm pretty sure those metal detectors have adjustment knobs, and they can just dial it back a notch or 2 so it doesn't pick up bras.

Reminds me of the SNL skit with Sharon Stone (I think it was her).

Let me go get a video camera. We need to document this... for security reasons.

what if it doesn't. So what. What's the big fucking deal? She's not being physically touched at all. If the security guard goes home and jerks off to her, she has no control over that. As long as he does not encroach upon her touch her inappropriately, she needs to STFU. The wand doesn't even touch her.

^by that argument, she has no control over it if he just starts jerking off in front of her. he isn't physically touching her....so it can't be harassment

If it was a hands-on pat down that would be different... she should have the right to request to have a female do it (but she would still have to be patted down). But a wand? Gimme a break.

If it's a sexual thing, should she have the right to request a heterosexual female do the patdown and not have to be patted down by a lesbo?

i possibly can agree with her. most of the posters in this thread have never had the "pleasure" of a male passing a wand closely over and over unnecessarily while oogling at your tits in a public place like that. i have and it is uncomfortable and embarrassing. not to mention it is unprofessional of the security person. *most* don't do this. but some do.

don't get me wrong. i'm all for security. but i could definitely see where she is coming from. maybe she is being over sensitive but there is a chance she really isn't.

Actually, I think it's more for criminals and disgruntled types who decide to sneak in a handgun or other weapon to take out a civil servant or two.

is wearing bras a matter of health, or comfort, or just a social thing? and do they make bras without metal? i mean i wouldn't go to the airport with a belt buckle, or pants with alot of metal buttons thats going to set off detectors, is it feasible for women not to wear metal or would that to be too unhealthly/uncomfortable? & how is it that women are getting the detectors in bothersome places, but guys zippers/buttons/belt buckles aren't getting them a lot of crotch time with the dectectors?

^ it depends on the person. for some it is a matter of health/comfort. personally, i can't stand to walk out without a bra. it really is a comfort issue for me, both physical and psychological. A. depending on your size (i am a c), not wearing a bra can be uncomfortable and even painful (think how some guys don't like to run or play sports in boxers... same thing really). B. some women don't want people seeing nipples and as you get older, you tend to sag. bras hide/help both of those. if i were an a-cup, i might not wear one at all. as a c, it'd be uncomfortable.

with regards to wires... again it is a size/comfort issue. *most* non-wired bras cannot offer the same level of support that a wired one can. in fact the only non-wired one i have found that fit well was like 2x what my normal bras cost. sure you can wear a sports bra but they look pretty crappy under a silk blouse. buying a bra can actually be a quite complicated issue - it all depends on your personal shape, size, support preferences, what shirt you are wearing, your aesthetic preference, etc.

i don't know why zippers don't go off (maybe they do) but wires do (most of the time they don't). i have had the rivets on jeans cause the detector to go off before. i guess it depends on how close the wand gets to you and what setting it is on.

Are bras a huge secret or something? Why can't this lady just say she's wearing one with underwire? It's not like we can't tell when some women are wearing a bra-- their boobs are perky and everything else sags.

^She can say she's wearing one with underwire, but they're still gonna wand her boobs.

Boobs are sex organs.

I can't imagine if someone asked me to spread my legs and squat a little while they waved a wand back and forth through my legs.

However, I really think this isn't a case of sexual harassment.

I'm curious to know why they won't set the machine at a less sensitive level though.

If underwire is setting it off, all sorts of harmless things are setting it off too. How do they keep the line moving?

You are all missing the point -- you're not going to catch a fucking terrorist by wanding a chick's tits, unless it's a chick with FFs who can hide a gun in her cleavage. And in that case, I wouldn't mind that being the last thing I see.

This is 100% about maintaining the illusion of competence. Let's back the paranoia truck up and use some fucking common sense and judgement.

BREASTS

are a secondary sexual characteristic, you retards.

And yes, just because some women have a bit of decency and don't want some guy repeatedly waving a wand in front of their chest, doesn't mean that asshole chauvinists can go on lecturing about how it is not sexual harassment blah blah blah.

HOW THE FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW?

AND HOW PRESUMPTUOUS DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO TELL OTHERS HOW THEY SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT FEEL IN A COMPROMISING OR UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION???

Maybe the TSA should have the decency to use male wand wavers for males, and female wand wavers for females.

remove the blinders in front of your eyes.

you are so narrow-minded, it is incredible.

not everybody in this world is white, upper-middle class, christian, and a neo-con.

and if you want to know, ~5% of the population of every country is homosexual, including where i live. in fact, it is much better and easier for gays to hook up here than in a place where they are accepted, such as the US. you should come here.

i picture the security guys as some buck-toothed slobbery redneck fuckjobs, who get all giggly when they get to wave a wand in front of purty women's boobies.

and they probably chuckle and snort as they set the detector to maximum sensitivity that will trip on a bra's underwire.

i also picture them decreasing sensitivity when they see a big fat ugly woman coming at them.

---

at any rate, i dont think the woman is out of line here, for not wanting to be leered at by low-rent security guards.

what IS out of line is to have a county courthouse metal detector set to trip on a freaking underwire bra.

here's my solution:

the local chapter of NOW, or whatever, should get their male homosexual friends to parade in and out of that courthouse with silver dollars taped under their testicles, studded jockstraps, metal penis rings, etc...

that'd get that sensitivity setting moved down a notch or two.

Maybe we should just abolish the TSA, because it's an institutional asshat?

When grannies and soldiers get all kinds of shit (ex: soldier with military ID with his unit getting held up for gunpowder residue on his COMBAT BOOTS), and procedures are so lax and screeners so unprofessional that you can sneak a gun onto a plane BY ACCIDENT...there's a problem, and the TSA is not the answer.

I wanted to apologize for saying that breasts are sex organs. I really wasn't sure when I typed it but I thought, "When a woman is pregnant, dat's where da milk comes out," and rolled with it.

And seriously:

Quote :
"BridgetSPK: If underwire is setting it off, all sorts of harmless things are setting it off too. How do they keep the line moving?"

Lawyers have to go through these metal detectors sometimes a dozen times a day. If anything, having your boobs wanded repeatedly is an unnecesary hassle.
