This has worked before. Sony Vaio desktop that has appeared to crash. I have the recovery software, but it ain't working. I kinda need it done asap too. Anybody interested? I have cash in hand.

it gets to the xp screen and then it goes black. It seems to be running, but nothing on screen. I've checked the monitor and it's fine.

can u get into safe mode at all? try pressing F8 continuously as it boots b4 the XP screen shows up.

Before you go any further, please give us a little more info.
Firstly...does your video card have a TV out?
If so..is anything plugged into your TV out?
If there is...unplug it and reboot the computer.

This is one possible fix for a problem.
Obviously there can be many different things.
