does anyone know what the fuck they are doing for this project. everyone i have talked to so far in the class has no idea what they are doing and everyone is unclear about his vague instructions. does he want us to find an already written article and summarize it or does he want us to find a case study from some reserves section in the library and figure out an equation of motion for it. please help, been trying to figure it out for so long and he is very unreachable recently.
and also does anyone want to study for this exam?
thanks, stan
trying to enjoy this cinco de mayo, yet he is driving me fucking insane right now. 5/5/2006 6:00:54 PM |

i figured everyone would write some bullshit about the tacoma narrows bridge and then google two other topics and just BS it. he likes talking about accelerometers, so i may write about that.
honestly i havent even started yet. i plan on doing it sometime this weekend. probably sunday. he said it was cool to work in groups to get ideas, so i think it would be alright to post ideas in here. unfortunately i dont really have any yet. 5/5/2006 6:35:57 PM |

Yeah Ive been trying to figure out what to do it on as well. I am pretty sure it can be on almost anything dealing even remotely to vibrations. I feel like you can just bs your way through most of it. Still is tough trying to figure out exactly what he wants. I was thinking about doing something about structural vibration due to earthquakes but thats about as far as I have got. So if anyone else has any great ideas I would love to hear them.

so far I have written one article, about how the steering wheel in my car would vibrate b/c of bent rims. I'm going to write one more tonight
I didn't say anything about math, and I won't in my other 2 articles. No equations or anything. Just tell how the problem occured from a vibrations standpoint, implications and how it could be resolved.
does anybody know if Dr Tu will be in his office tomorrow, I want to ask his opinion on what I have

im not writing any equations either. and yeah, im just going to talk about the problems and how they were resolved.
i havent even started btw 5/7/2006 6:03:01 PM |

dr. tu said something about office hours on monday but i sent an email to him and have yet to hear back what time they are or what exactly he is asking for. if anyone else gets back an email or finds out when his office hours are tomorrow please post on this site.
thanks 5/7/2006 6:43:09 PM |

yeah i havent started either but im not planning on using any eqns either. I dont figure its going to be that much work though...pretty much just have to get started and I figure itll be done before i know it 5/7/2006 7:02:51 PM |
stanw86 Veteran 223 Posts user info edit post |
same here. not writing out any equations. just putting in a little pic that is photoshoped off some webpage and then write some bs about the technology behind it. if everyone, or a lot of, people do exactly this then he will see how unclear and fucking senseless his directions for this were. though this might be exactly what he wants. please post your topics that you have thought about on here and other things, might help to grasp some ideas for some people.
my topics(dont take them exactly): tennis raquet dynamat car springs 5/7/2006 7:13:06 PM |

I just finished my 2nd article, so far my topics were
Steering wheel vibrating in car How a record player records/plays sounds
I also included a figure drawn in Paint for each of those, showing the parts that vibrate

a little fyi to anyone for help on this project.
on google they have a little scholar button on top of the search keywords. if u click that and then enter "(your topic) vibration analysis" then it will come back with a lot of hits that help and not random bs. most of them u have to pay for but there are some (probably 4 out of 10) that are free to open and look at.
if anyone already knew that and didnt tell me...lol...ur assholes. 5/7/2006 7:46:32 PM |

well i guess i'll be the one to tell you that the university already pays for most of those journals so you can usually view the entire thing by going through the library
and if your on campus some of them automatically recognize the ip so you dont have to pay 5/7/2006 8:27:42 PM |

anyone get done yet?
just wondering, could you do a bungee cord for this project? even though some problem is not solved i thought u might be able to use it just to explain what happens as the cord stretches out and shit like that. opinions?
just looking for my third topic and cant figure out anything. 5/7/2006 10:04:35 PM |

i have done two so far. vibrational imbalance on a small rotating motor, and excess noise generated by a diesel engine that was fixed with stiffer dampers.
i still need a 3rd and not sure if either of the first 2 cound for the 2D-multiple degree of freedom exactly. even tho i know they are multiple degree things in real life not sure what he is looking for exactly. 5/7/2006 10:31:49 PM |

I finished all 3 of mine, bungee jumping is probably OK since it is a product, which is one of the things he mentioned in the description 5/7/2006 10:42:00 PM |

i mean. u know what 2d systems are right?...not saying that sarcastically or anything like that. u might want to look into something like a car seat for 2d. hence the springs that balance the weight of the passenger and the springs that connect it to the chasis...just an idea.
anyone else feel that bungee jumping might be ok or not ok with him to do with this? 5/7/2006 11:52:57 PM |

so has anyone really been studying chapters 4, 9 or 10? i read all 3 chapters last night, and i plan on studying chapter 5 tonight.
but im having a hard time determining what he can even ask from 4,9, and 10. there's really nothing in those chapters that seems that important. and i dont really remember him going over the chapters in any detail in class. 5/8/2006 5:19:31 PM |

He only went over chapter 4 one day in class as far as I can tell

For some unknown reason...someone asked whether he was goin to curve and he said he wasnt because he was mad about making it so easy. Why someone would ask if he was going to curve, when he was mad, blows my mind. Maybe he'll cool off though. 5/9/2006 2:07:19 PM |

dang, so he thinks he made it easy? I dont know about all of that 5/9/2006 5:08:18 PM |
