According to my sources, Pete Strickland will be joining Monte Towe, Larry Harris, and Sidney Lowe as an assistant basketball coach at NC State. I have no link for this yet, but I have it on the word of big named donors that Pete Strickland will be joining us.

If I'm wrong, suspend me.

Strickland has also been a head coach for about 10 years. We're going to need as much college head coaching experience on this bench as we can.

Shit must be pretty ugly at Univ of New Orleans if Towe is leaving

I seriously contemplated returning to school there and walking on, just to play for him

I'm kind of curious to see how this works out, with former head coaches becoming assistants.

Is this going to be coaching-by-committee, or will they defer to Lowe?

Towe has been at New Orleans the last 5 years and was an assistant here under Sloan. Towe was an assistant under Sloan with Florida all of those years as well. He also coached under Biedenbach at UNCA.

Strickland coached at Old Dominion. He was head man at Coastal Carolina for like 5 years too. He went to Pitt and played with Coach Larry Harris. Also played high school ball at DeMatha High School where Morgon Wooten scores and is probably the best bball high school in the country. Jordan Collins went there I know.

Strickland also coached at Coastal Carolina for about 7 years.

He didn't do much, but he didn't totally suck it up. It was a deadbeat program anyways, and he came in following a guy who had a lot of nasty recruiting violations.

Just a thought amongst the bliss of our returning stars reviving our basketball team:

Maybe we should not use so many in-house guys on our coaching staff?
Since many of them already have similar ties to recruiting and coaching through state (or none if you are Lowe), then arent we limiting our recruiting market base in a big way?

(i.e. Amato's pull in florida & Herb's recruiting ties up north, especially in NY)
Thank god we retained Larry Harris, that is the best news we have gotten thus far.

I think Lowe will be a great X's and O's coach and I love the guy, but the reason we went after Calipari, Barnes, and their ilk is because they (and their assistants) have wide recruiting markets with well-established pull all over the country.

I just hope we arent missing out on something here amidst our excitement.

[Edited on May 6, 2006 at 8:50 PM. Reason : Towe does have widespread college connections, but UNO is smalltime.]

Do you even know who Strickland is?

and Calipari gets all his players from that basketball prep school in Laurinburg, NC
Barnes is getting most of his players out of Texas too

Also, he has some experience with the Beach Ball Classic (bball tourney) in Myrtle Beach where a lot of highly ranked high school teams play every December.

^^^^Yeah I am sure all of Cal's recruits come from the same HS in NC and his assistants (which all could be head coaches themselves) dont help him out very much with it.....

But anyways, fuck Calipari. He is a douche bag. We got a homegrown baller in there now.

In addition to all the guys officially on staff, you can be pretty sure that DT, Burleson, and probably Corch are going to be involved too.

I didnt know about this when I first heard about it, but its looking better and better the more I hear. This could be a really good thing, and I dont think with all of the experience on the coaching staff...that it will fail.

Does your source happen to have a PP premium membership?

My point was merely that these things were on PP a 2-3 days before your initial post so it had well worked its way through circles.

If you are in the general forum, then no one... if you are in the premium forums then there is pretty solid information.
