Is there a way using outlook to send a copy of an email to someone else? For example, I'm sending something to my friend, is there a way the same email can be sent to someone else without me knowing it? not talking about CC or BCC. The original sender does not know the email is being read by the third party, is that possible? If so where do I look to cut it off? We think some of our emails have been intercepted by someone else in the office, so we are just making sure. 5/8/2006 12:19:50 AM |

Anything could be done at the mail server. 5/8/2006 12:43:49 AM |

is there a way to track it to see if that is really happening or if we are just paranoid? 5/8/2006 12:44:38 AM |

If your sysadmin really wanted to screw you, there's nothing you could do.
One way out would be to use a different outgoing mail server...preferably one that uses a secure channel. 5/8/2006 12:49:19 AM |

honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. The other day the guy that sets up the emails approached a co-worker and was very pushy about setting up his home email address on outlook on his work computer. That is why we thought it was being done. As of now, we think they have it set up on one of my co-workers computers, of course now I can't email her to tell her what to look for, I'll have to wait till she gets back from vacation! 5/8/2006 1:06:59 AM |

You can always ask your employer what written policies are in place for monitoring network connections/reading emails. Usually there is a consent form of some sort (even if its your employment contract) which states "I understand and agree to these terms and conditions". I know where I work you are to assume you have NO privacy and ANYTHING can be monitored. Will it? Most likely not ... but they reserve the right to do so if they wish.
If your coworker wants to check their personal email from their work computer, they should setup Remote Desktop or some sort of similar remote access software. Anything ON that work comptuer is company property, including the storage of personal emails. (Anything ON that work computer can also be used in a court of law).
Also, from the sounds of it, you guys have some serious trust issues between yourselves, IT, and management. Might want to get that resolved first before continuing looking into this issue. As ultra stated, anything could be done at the mail server.
