^^^I think what he means is it looks exactly like every other generic flip phone ever made.
Which it totally does.
But hey, if wanting to own a phone that doesn't look like everyone else's makes me ~ then flame away. 5/8/2006 12:08:38 PM |

cingular phones may be fine, but cingular service (as with all GSM) is crappy as can be unless you live/work/do everything within 5 miles of a city or major highway
if you're saying you could do without a camera, then you could probably do without all the other crap that GSM carriers HAVE to put on their phones in order to justify charging what they do for crappy service
if you want a small, lightweight, fairly featureless phone that is good as a PHONE, then go with verizon or alltel, get one of their free phones and save yourself money 5/8/2006 1:11:02 PM |

Nokia 6230
does have a camera. it's very sturdy. I'm hard on phones, and i'm coming up on a year with this one (cingular sent this to me to replace the crappy V220 I'd had). I've dropped it more times than I want to count, dropped it in orange juice, throw it around, and sometimes miss my target . Mostly, I'm impressed with how it's held up to all the dropping and throwing - only the display face is scratched, and not too badly.
Of all the phones I've had, this one probably has the best reception, as well. Coverage isn't ideal, seeing as how this is Cingular we're talking about. 5/8/2006 3:03:34 PM |

i seriously dont understand how some people can have such shitty coverage and others get great coverage
where is the discrepancy 5/8/2006 3:12:30 PM |
ambrosia1231 eeeeeeeeeevil 76471 Posts user info edit post |
Some of it's got to do with where they spend most of their time
I'm not too peeved about having shitty reception in the middle of a building at WV, even though verizon folks have full coverage. Ditto for elevators, and underground labs.
I used to not get any signal in the back half of my bf's place, but about a month ago, that changed, and now it's fine. 5/8/2006 3:15:12 PM |

se w600i is nice
I have one and originally I had a lot of problems with it just randomly resetting and with wsod's. But.... Since sony released a newer software for it, I haven't had any problems. You can update using the cable that comes with it and se update service pretty easily if you get one and it doesn't have the latest software version. 5/9/2006 6:48:56 AM |

looks like the Z525a is the upgraded version of the Z520a
the Z520a kicks ass
unless the reviews for the Z525a are bad, i would go with that 5/9/2006 8:46:05 AM |

actually the w600i is a newer phone (completely seperate of the s710a)
im liking the w300i and w800i. look for them when they come out.
^^strange problem there, was it completely random or could you repeat it at will?

It is a new phone but it disappoints in that there is no memory stick support.
Also, have the issues with S710a been sorted out in the W600i?
eg:
lack of playlists buggy camera software contact list functionality etc. 5/9/2006 1:06:45 PM |

yeah don't get the v220, it's a piece. But then again I'm more pissed at Cingulars coverage... I live out in the boonies and can't hardly use my phone when I'm home cuz the coverage is so shitty. But it works fine once I head into town to see dem city folk. 5/9/2006 1:07:17 PM |

^^
-no memory stick support for the w600i, but it is superior to the s710a in the storage department. the s710a had ~30mb internal phone memory, and does not support memory stick Pro Duo, so it can only read a memory stick of 128mb max size, for a grand total of ~158mb of storage. the w600i has 256mb of internal phone memory for you to play with.
-the w600i is a walkman phone, so it has a different media player application which allows you to create playlists
-be more specific about the camera software. the w600i has different camera drivers but i'm not sure what problems you've been having so i don't know if they are fixed on the w600i.
-the contact list functionality is very similar on the w600i as it was to s710a, so if you had problems with that i doubt anything has been changed. nonetheless, you could be more specific about this as well.
all in all, at this point i'd really wait for the w300i (flip phone with Bluetooth, Infa-Red, Walkman app, shitty camera, M2 stick support (not sure how big these get but i've used the phone with a 2gb stick) or the w810i (i typo'd it above when i said w800... this is a bar phone, Bluetooth, Infa-Red, Walkman app, awesome 2 megapixel camera, Memory Stick Pro Duo support that i've used with 2gb, not sure how much higher you can get...)
both phones are awesome. the w300i hits a much lower price point if you don't need the camera to be awesome and prefer flip phones. otherwise, the w810i is about as cool as it gets. 5/9/2006 1:45:51 PM |

I could never really figure out what caused the wsod on my w600i...had to return my first one to Cingular. The 2nd was having similar problems (cutting off during calls, etc.) but nowhere near as bad as my first. It has been working fine since I updated it with se update service though.5/9/2006 4:07:46 PM |

theres a reason why everytime someone makes a thread about dropped calls it turns out that they have a v series moto
