I really know nothing about rss feeds, so I apologize if this sounds idiotic. I don't even know exactly how to word my search in google properly for something like this. I have a personal website and I would like to know if it is possible to host the BBC World News rss feed on my homepage. If it's possible, what would I need to do this? 5/9/2006 11:19:42 AM |

How do you want to host it? Like a crawler?
Are you hosting the website yourself or is a company hosting it?
You might could use something like this.

Just google rss plus crawler or reader or bbc, actually this page will tell you how to do it.

Thank you. I have a dreamhost account for hosting my website. I just want the BBC World News rss feed to display and update on my site's homepage; since most of my website's content is based on international travel, I thought including BBC World News would be topical/relevant. Just wanted to know if this was a possibility and if so, how it would be accomplished. I'll check out links. Thanks again, I have to admit I'm going into without any knowledge of the subject, so I appreciate it. 5/9/2006 1:53:03 PM |

I have a website, and I host it.... I want to be able to have certain RSS feeds update on my webpage. Like say for instance I wanted to have slashdots RSS feed update on my webpage in a little corner say...what steps do I need to take to get it to work? I'm soooooooooo confused between what I need....aggregators, readers, xml...????? I would be eternally greatful if someone could give me a step by step of what I need to do.... 5/25/2006 3:13:49 PM |

thanks DF...but I just went to http://www.globalsyndication.com/rss-parser and tried one and posted the php on a page, uploaded it to my server and it's not reading it at all...
Also, I'm wondering what the difference is between a parser, aggregator and reader is? 5/25/2006 5:28:22 PM |

disclaimer: these are VERY raw definitions and they will not hold up under close scrutiny.
parser - reads the file into whatever you need. anything can be parsed - html, a text file, etc. aggregator - aggregate = combine and collect, or something like that. aggregators are like bloglines - they parse your rss feeds and put them in one place for you to read. reader - same thing as aggregator
and i don't know why that php one didn't work but try another one - it may have been the bad one out of the bunch. 5/26/2006 12:56:41 PM |
