what types of beer have you had?

if they've all been light versions of beer, that's your problem.
if they've all been paler, or one certain color range, that's a problem.

try darker or lighter beers, european and other kinds of beer.

your best bet may be to try to find a bar that has a wide variety on tap, that might let you buy a sampler type of deal, to get a feel for what you like. maybe the flying saucer? or some other bars in raleigh that have more than just a few beers on tap.

good luck. i can't say i like a lot of beers, but i've found some that I like, and there's still a lot left to try.

Drink womans beer, queernuff, mikes, budlight xtra light. Guiness would probably pull your skirt off and rape you, so stay away from that.

If you're going to try a darker beer, I'd try something like Newcastle, or a nut brown (Carolina Brewing Co. makes a pretty good one). They have a near-sweetness to them, and aren't anywhere near as strong as the stouts (Guinness et. al.). Dundee's Honey Brown is in a similar place in my opinion.

You could also try some of the ones with fruit overtones, like Abita Purple Haze, or Pete's Strawberry Blonde. Add something different to the equation.

Hefeweizens are also definitely worth a shot. I'd probably third the Blue Moon recommendation for someone who isn't a "beer person", but Pyramid and Widmer also make good ones.

The ones you listed do taste pretty much the same. They're all generic american light-colored eers, and aren't going to improve your opinion of beer any.

I'd have to recommend Grolsch Blonde. It tastes almost like corona, but with absolutely no aftertaste. Dont even need a lime with it.

Hmmm it sounds like you've never had a beer. Instead from what you describe you've been drinking urine masquerading as beer. Try a real beer. I'm suggesting Smithwicks or Bass. Maybe a Hefewiezen like Widmer Brothers.

If someone insists that you drink a beer, get a Coors Light. It's pretty much water.

I've never really liked beer, but I've tried, so I've had at least one of every run of the mill beer. The only one I can tolerate other than the aforementioned silver-wrapped water is Molson Canadian.

guiness and framboise is good- you can get framboise at peace street market (I think that's the one-- used to be 7-even) or wine stores, but like liquor its not as cheap as beer

oh, and I concur with blue moon and orange-- any hefeweizen with orange is yummy

[Edited on May 10, 2006 at 7:05 AM. Reason : hefeweizen]

Rogue Hazlenut Brown, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, Young's Oatmeal Stout, or Left Hand Stout

They're all stouts, but I think that's a good thing - they're less alcohol- or hop-tasting, and much heavier than other kinds of beer. They're all pretty full-flavored, not hoppy like __________ light.

If you don't like beer, try a shandy. 1 part lager and 1 part sprite or 7up. It's pretty common in europe, but I know a lot of people who couldn't stand beer, and liked shandys, which turned out to be their gateway to normal beers.

Steel Reserve Triple Export baby. It's thick, sweet, and goes down SMOOOTH. Completely different from normal steel reserve, which is also awesome in it's own right.

I second this as a starter beer.

My suggestion is to go to Total Wine, go back to the beer section, and build a 6-pack of things that look interesting. Try lambics with fruit and some of the others mentioned here, just experiment until you find what's good.

You may have to pay more for good beer before you can tolorate the cheap stuff...that's the route I had to take.

Just keep drinking. I couldn't stand the taste of beer when I first started drinking. I don't love the taste of beer now...but at times I really crave an ice cold one, and I can tolerate about any kind of beer now.

Just be patient and acclimate yourself to the taste. Drink half a light beer every other day until it starts tasting good and refreshing to you. I didn't drink my first beer until I was 20. I pretty much hated the taste and it almost made me sick everytime, but I have slowly grown to love Miller Lite and a few other similar beers. For some people it really is an acquired taste. Until you get used to the taste I'd suggest:

Woodchuck Raspberry Cider
Woodchuck Cider
Newcastle
Mich light

Sea Dog Blueberry Wheat Ale. Blueberry muffins in a bottle. You can find it at Six-Twelve convenience store in mission valley for like $7.99 a six pack. They also make a Raspberry Wheat Ale, but it isn't as good as Purple Haze IMO.

You could also go to Total Wine in Crossroads and buy different beers by the bottle instead of having to commit to a 6 pack

drink girly beer - smirnoff ice, mike's lemonade, etc. or hell, go even lower and get some wine coolers - they are like koolaid.

i'm with you tho - i'm not much a beer drinker myself. bud, coors, etc are about as nasty as they come.

The only beers I drink are Guinness, British beers like Mackeson XXX Stout, Killians, Sam Adams, Corona, Heineken, Kingfisher (awesome), and Top of the Hill's white brew.

I don't drink cheap beer, but beer definitely tastes great once you understand the ingredients that go in it. My goal is to try the major beers of the world very soon.

I never really liked beer but then I started drinking the darker ones, and usually more expensive ones compared to the cheap beers, cheap just tastes bad. Examples of what I like is Guiness, Young's double chocolate, anything Highland and then it I kinda started liking anything but I still dont like the cheap ass shit.

Go to Flying saucer and just try around on a Monday night
