Anytime I mention that I have been living in NC for 5 years and just moved to MN, I get "smuggy" responses. It might be just my experience, but it is overwhelming.

in short? yeah. They buy all that shit every standup comedian ever has used since 1955.

I'd say that the negative feelings would be mutually reciprocated, but we're so fucking saturated with northerners now and know they're just people like the rest of us.

A great portion of them have been here before and are literally pissed off because the weather is nicer here, we actually have more teeth per-capita, and our women are hotter

(ALTHOUGH, there's something to be said of a cute little jersey skank with a purple scrunchie in her hair and dark circles around her eyes from a vitamin deficiency )

1. You are not a Southerner.

2. They just don't like you.

^1. true

also, think about the images of North Carolina usually on television (outside of American Idol)...usually some toothless wonder

plus, yankees and non-southerners just tend to be generally less friendly

my friend that has recently moved to boston said it's not that they don't like southerners, but it seems that when she says she's from NC they automatically picture Mayberry in their head. and they're surprised she doesn't have a really strong country twang.

I'd say that the number of people in the north who hate southern people is probably about equal to the southern people with the bumper stickers and other paraphernalia bearing "Yankees Go Home" set on the background of a confederate flag.

agreed....in fact, in my experiences, southern folks are the ones that really press the issue....a lot of northerners just dont care.

i've been told that as long as i don't act like a yokel when i'm in the north, people will find my southern nature charming

not quite a novelty, but definitely a benefit

so success in life is now based upon the number of different places you have lived? what a lame argument.

southerners voice their opinions about northerners much more than northerners do.

I know, dudes and dudettes.

I didn't say that northerners don't like me...read the thread again...I just said that they don't like NC/South being mentioned.

Way to be stupid.

All I'm saying is that I think it's good to move around and experience different areas and people. I don't "rag" on the South, I like it here. I also like the North. Haven't lived in the west, but might try that too. I don't see why interacting with people who aren't from the south is such a big deal for you. OMFG the yankees are coming.

oh i dont mind people coming here, I like meeting different types.

but to say just because you live in one place your whole life somehow makes you inherently less successful in life is absurd.

being resistant to meeting new people, learning how things are done outside of where you live, etc is a different story though.

I wouldnt mind giving the west coast a try, but i think i would miss this area too much.

^yeah

it's more of a Urban vs "other" mindset really.

and it's so fucking cold up there that everyone huddles together when they find another human, so it's GOING to be more urban

I didn't say anything about success. And I didn't mean to infer that either. I just meant that how do you know where you live is the best, if you never live anywhere else....

for me, moving down here was like.....

ok you know how when you see anything about the aborigonees, they're all in skimpy ass thongs made of koala bellies and can have to survive on roots and shit?
Imagine going to Australia and finding out they're WAY more "advanced" than that. Like Capusle corp, flying cars and regular old Jetsons shit

SymeGuy69, don't be all defensive. You defended the people who talk trash about the South and then move here. How the fuck did you expect us to react?

I wasn't defending anyone, Bridget. I don't even watch hockey so I don't know what that was all about. I was commenting only on the comment about why did you move here cause i'm so tired of hearing it, that's all. It ticks me off.

do people really think the weather in NC is better than up North?

it's all the fucking same along the east coast except for maybe Maine and Florida

cold, shitty winters and muggy, hot summers

it's all the same, so quit making yourself look stupid

when i was in boston, i was informed of the slight southern accent that i didn't realize i even had. also, i got a bit more attention from the ladies. i think that is because i'm different from what they're used to being around. it's the same way american women go crazy over european men.

^ you're the one who's making yourself look stupid. our winters are shorter and less cold than northern winters. it also doesn't snow much down here. we have a warmer average temperature year round. the air is much cleaner. seriously, we have much better weather in nc than some places up north. these are undeniable fact, not opinions. look at the weather almanacs.
