Any X files fans here? I got the whole series off of EBAY on dvd last year....I think I might go through an X Files phase for the next few weeks.

What are some good episodes to watch?

I like the one where something strange is going on, but Scully is doubtful of Mulder's explanations.

Personal Favorites:

Squeeze/Tooms (Season 1)
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (Season 3)
Memento Mori (Season 4)
Pusher (Season 3)

The following are funny episodes that are fun to watch:
Bad Blood (Season 5)
Small Potatoes (Season 4)

Season 3 probably has the greatest concentration of really good episodes (followed closely by 4).

PS My user name is from an X-files episode (yes I'm a huge dork )

My Fav. Episode is Bad Blood (6.12)

Other good ones:
Jose Chung's From Outer Space (3rd Season) guest stars Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebeck (doesn't get better than that, this is often rated the best episode)
X-COPS (Where its shot as if an episode of COPS)
Humbug (Circus Freaks)
The Host is Classic, holds a special place for me as the first episode I saw
Clyde Buckman's Final Repose
Duane Barry, Ascention, One Breath Arc
War of the Copraphages

I always like Home (better known as the Peacock's episode) just for the sheer disturbing nature of that episode.

I think it was called "The Great Mutato" or something close to that, it was late Mulder, one of the last good ones.

Here's another good one: Detour. Can't remember which season it is, either 4 or 5. But that was the one with the invisible boogymen down in a Florida forest. They're near-transparent, except for their eyes that glow red in the dark. One of them was chasing this kid through his house. Seeing that thing appear scared the ever living shit outta me.

I never understood all the excitement over Ice, it fine, it just seems like pretty standard sci-fi fare nicely done and all, yet it seems to often be mentioned as a standout episode.

If you don't want all the special features, they are now realeasing slim case versions of the season sets (minus the last disc that is all bonus features) for about $45.99 but you can get them on Amazon for $34.99. Oh I think they also might have removed some of the commentary track/deleted scenes on the remaining discs (not sure) but the episodes themselves are the same quality.

That is a damn good deal for all the episodes if you're just a casual fan. I payed the high price for seasons 1-7 but couldn't justify it for 8 and 9 since they weren't as good. But for $35 I'll do it to round out my collection.

The Simpson's episode with Mulder & Scully was on the other night (where Mr. Burns was mistaken for an alien, with Leonard Nimoy in the episode as well).

X-Files episodes fall into two basic categories:
1.) Conspiracy/Cover Up/Truth is Out There episodes, which I never really cared for
and
2.) Fucked up random shit, which I much prefer.

Examples of the later include the tapeworm man that hides in portajons(I look every damn time now). I also really like the episode with the three inbred brothers who try to breed with their mother. That was a seriously disturbing episode. I think about it every time I go into an old barn or farmhouse these days.

I stopped watching after the late 90's, but it was at one time the scarriest show on television.

The original episodes were shot in Vancouver, IIRC, giving the show that dark, overcast, greyscale mood. The actors all bitched until filming was moved to bright, sunny California, which kinda ruined the show for me.

just finished up season 5 the other day followed by the movie. i really liked these episodes a lot:

Chinga, Unusual Suspects, Detour, Kill Switch, Bad Blood, Travelers, Mind's Eye, Folie a Deux. All Souls had potential but i thought it could have been a lot better.

the dialogue was hilarious in Mind's Eye and that doll in Chinga is still creepy as shit.

in the middle of season six now.

I don't think Gillian Anderson (Scully) had anything to do with the moving of the show -- like the awesome ad you posted above (thanks for that, by the way!) infers, I believe it was all Duchovny's (Mulder) influence that got the show moved. So yeah, he's the reason the atmosphere changed for the worse, like you mentioned.

'The X-Files' was my fav show since the later part of season 1, and for me no other show out there can touch it -- it'll always be numero uno for me. I agree with all of the criticisms about it, but as long as Gillian Anderson was there, I watched. God bless that woman; she's an awesome actress.

Are the X-files Mythologies dvd boxes pretty much just a collection of episodes from the series' seasons that coincide and are on the same subjects? Such as abductions, etc?

Haha, exactly. They usually mix it up, like 3 episodes in a row related to "The One Conspiracy (tm)", then 3 "Alabama Swamp Monster" episodes. Again, The One Conspiracy episodes assume you've seen each episode thus far and have taken notes. If I missed an episode or it's been a few months in between seasons, I tended to forget what it was all about.

You're right, when Duchovny's wife was expecting their first kid, he wanted to move closer to be with his family. Anderson didn't really get much respect, they pretty much did whatever DD wanted.

And the lightning episode is Season 3 Episode 3 "DPO" (which was the initials of the guy's name played by Giovanni Ribisi), that was a good one.
