Quote : | "Jay Davis isn't into self deceit. The ex-N.C. State quarterback is still locked in on the same profession -- coaching -- he's pursued for years.
But something happened a few days back that almost no one else expected. It was enough to make Davis at least fine tune his thinking about the future. He went to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers tryout camp, and left as the surprise of the show.
"He's certainly got enough talent to be a guy you could potentially see playing ... in the NFL," Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden told reporters after the workouts. "Who knows? Before it's all said and done, maybe he is guy we can squeeze into training camp."" |

What if...
Jay Davis does well at the Tampa training camp. Jay Davis gets some pre-season playing time in Tampa. Some shit goes down in Tampa, and Davis has to start.
We get to see Davis get rocked by Peppers 2 times a year

Does anyone expect Gruden or any NFL coach to say about any free agent tryout "Player X is terrible, I can't believe he bothered to show up." Read between the lines here folks when an NFL coach says "I think Player X has the potential to make it in the NFL...." I admire his class through the entire booing situation. However, nothing can change the fact that an NFL quarterback will have to demonstrate the ability to throw the ball 30+ yards, allowing DB's and LB's to cover a small area and create major traffic is disaster for a QB. 5/24/2006 1:28:04 AM |

Hey guys if he was really that bad he wouldn't get a shot at all.
I mean Cotra Jackson wasn't offered a tryout. It's not like everyone that plays college ball gets a chance. 5/24/2006 2:08:37 AM |

Then they go back and erase some of the "L"s on our record during Jay Davis' tenure and replace them with "W"s. They even put two "W"s down for the UNC games.

^^ youre missing the fucking point
if we had a quarterback here for 2 years that was so horrible
and then he all of a sudden becomes an NFL qb, backup or otherwise
something was wrong with our coaching staffs development of that player. 5/24/2006 9:49:25 AM |

Actually he was.
Jay doesn't have an agent. The Jets and Bucs contacted him and invited him to try out, come to camps, etc. It's not like he just showed up univited.5/24/2006 1:04:45 PM |

is that supposed to make it better? taking a sack is always better than throwing an interception.
and all they have said is he had talent. i dont think anyone ever questioned his talent, he was a top 25 prospect coming out of high school. the thing is question is his decision making ability, same with marcus. marcus basically had a little more talent and a little less brains.
that said, i hope he succeeds as long as he doesnt go willie parker on us.5/24/2006 2:41:43 PM |
