I recently just moved and am connected to a university network for the summer during an internship. Whenever I try to connect to any server it says Connection Refused. I had to register my MAC address to logon to the network. I tried using a router to see if that made any difference and it hasn't. The same thing happens when I try to download torrents.
Can anyone help me get back onto IRC and Torrents? 5/23/2006 6:07:09 PM |

Try emulating a new MAC and using a friends login info to register it.
Happy?
And don't ask me how to emulate a MAC address, I swear to god.

There are no logins, I just sent my mac addy to one of the guys here and my comp was online.
The connection refused thing does not say anything other than that, no error code or anything. So the details I have given you are about as much as I can without giving you my MAC address. 5/23/2006 6:43:28 PM |

The university is blocking ports to those specific programs. Change the ports or do without.
Let me add ... if you DO change the ports, they probably can monitor your connection easily. Then they'll ban your MAC. (Hint: There probably IS a reason they are blocked). If you can explain a legit/academic/work reason for having those programs, talk to them.
