He MIGHT take a loss (and yes I've seen all the numbers that HE gave out..) purely with the Yanks but the YankeeNets thing is definitely in the black.. he isn't losing money ever year. Plus YES isn't included in that number from what I understand..

That is moronic. "Everything that is wrong" with owners would be someone like George Shinn. A good owner puts money back into his team and does his best to supply the tools to be a winning franchise... Steinbrenner does that about as well as anyone in the business. Yes, he calls out his coaches and his players but with high pay comes high expectations. These guys aren't paid to be mediocre.5/25/2006 2:51:53 PM |

Steinbrenter is only "everything that's wrong" if you happen to not be a Yankees fan... i'm not, but i still respect him as a good owner for that team, granted he overpays and makes a few foolish contracts, but he's always willing to go out on a limb to try and bring in that talent that'll make his team (ignoring the fact that his championships were won when he was working with a well developed farm system as opposed to just buying hired guns)...
Cuban = Steinbrenter with a salary cap... Both of them >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> George Shinn

^ You need to read up on his business history and more of his underhanded dealings. His leukemia came right before his plea deal with the federal government, and, if nothing else, he's one of the healthiest leukemia sufferers I've ever seen.
"In 1997, Hendrick pleaded guilty to bribery and mail fraud. In the 1980s, Honda automobiles were in high demand, and Honda executives allegedly solicited bribes from dealers for larger product disbursements. Hendrick admitted to giving hundreds of thousands of dollars, BMW automobiles, and houses to American Honda Motor Company executives. Hendrick was sentenced in December of that year to a $250,000 fine, 12 months home confinement (instead of prison, due to his leukemia), three years probation, and to have no involvement with Hendrick Automotive Group or Hendrick Motorsports during his year of confinement. In December of 2000, Hendrick received a full pardon from President Clinton."

I'd like to nominate Malcom Glazer for worst owner. His teams may be good, but he has:
1) turned Raymond James into a police state. Students attempting to rush the field after USF's win over Louisville were held down and tasered by some RJS security 2) wont let any other teams that use RJS put up any kind of signs saying they play there 3) wont talk to the media 4) never acts like hes interested in the fans, he never appears at any functions or anything 5) pissed off the entire Man U fanbase by buying the team even though he knows NOTHING about soccer 5/26/2006 12:17:08 AM |
Flyin Ryan All American 8224 Posts user info edit post |
^ Glazer is a symptom of the culture that sports are today where they are just another avenue to rape consumers of money. Other examples of that are Wayne Huizenga and Jeffrey Loria.
