Hey guys, I am about to go crazy trying to find a replacement for this fan. This is for an otherwise perfect KDS Laptop I got a few months ago, but the CPU fan is shot.
After nearly two months of internet searching, I've found a company in CA that lists the part, but they don't actually stock it and will only fill orders of 100+ units! ARGH!
http://www.pscmf.com/pdf/dc_blowers/pg0006.pdf
It's a 50x50x11mm DC Blower, 5VDC, .15A, 3.4CFM.
It uses three mounting screws at three corners, and I can use any fan in the .15-.25A range from 3-6CFM as long as its the same form-factor.
Is the fan, the original is an SEI branded one, but I understand that SEI is no longer in busines. I found a couple of places in europe that sell a direct replacement, but they run 25-30 Euro + 10-20 euro to ship it over, which ends up being almost half the value of the laptop.
Dear god help me

it looks like they service the part, can you have them fix it? http://www.pscmf.com/sform.htm 5/25/2006 8:54:06 PM |

No, they won't help me at all. I emailed back and forth with the sales manager for a while, she basically said if I dont want to order volume, she can't help. 5/25/2006 9:05:52 PM |

because its a laptop for one,
but mainly it has to be a blower. you cant see it well from the photo, but it pulls in air through the metal shield there, and expels the air to the side, not out the back. so a normal 50mm fan will do nothing in its place 5/26/2006 12:50:41 AM |

Instead of a replacement, perhaps you or someone on here could rebuild the fan using existing housing/parts? 5/26/2006 7:14:51 AM |

No, I was playing off the fact that, if you can't find it at $3, it clearly isn't a $3 fan. 5/26/2006 8:39:59 AM |

i can't see quite how it's all constructed, but couldn't you just pull the fan out of the housing and replace the fan itself? that should be pretty easy to find5/26/2006 2:50:47 PM |

Why don't you pretend to be a designer, and ask the California company for a sample. Or call them up directly or something... 5/26/2006 4:12:00 PM |

Hey Noen, contact Mitsuba. He used to work for IBM in their chip design team so he might know where to get single order parts or fans.
