So with Jean, Cyclops and Prof X dead...well kinda dead don't really know the status of him except he transfered his mind into that one guys. What do you think they'll do for X4 if there even is one? 5/26/2006 2:09:26 AM |

shadow king? sentinels?
i thought it was pretty decent, not spectacular but definatly above average
the guy from the beginning of the movie, with no conciousness 'woke up' spoke with professor x's voice and Moria (the doctor lady) responded "charles?!"

this movie is a 7 at best. worth $6.50? I don't know. But it has little moments of brilliance for sure. I definitely think a lot of it was under developed though as far as story line. Why so short? Definitely setting up for #4. Aren't there 6 total planned/franchised? 5/26/2006 2:28:27 AM |

It's interesting how most of the scenes were from comics.
1) Professor X transferring his mind - Jean Grey did that in Uncanny X-Men #281 when she was killed by a Sentinel. She transferred her mind into the body of the White Queen who was comatose.
2) Logan killing Jean - Straight out of Endsong. Jean asks Logan to kill her so she can "start over". He ends up killing her 5 or 6 times and she keeps coming back. Logan also killed Jean in "Planet-X" X-Men #149 when Magento Hurled them into the sun.
3) Rogue goes to take the "cure" in Uncanny X-Men, but it turns out to be fake and she rejects it. I'm madd she took in. In the book she doesn't take it.
4) "Jean Wrapped herself in a telekinetic cocoon....." - The Phoenix Saga all the way. And why the hell didn't we get to see her rising from the water. 5/26/2006 2:32:00 AM |

yeah, I got a nice tingle right at the end, I only get that when the movie is decently above average...
I thought it did a pretty decent job of bringing you into the movie, there were definatly some shakey plot points that brought it down the most, that and some mild rather uninspiring acting...
i thought there was some good use of the powers to establish visuals and plot points
the tingle deal resulted in me winning some nice money on Gladiator winning best picture...

but basically the theater in greenville was the only one doing a midnight showing for at least an hour in all directions, an hour & a half in some

Man, I was entertained, but so many things bugged me about this movie.
I hated cyclops, but it still seemed odd that when he died nobody really seemed to mind. Didn't it seem weird that wolverine made a bigger deal about it than anyone else? I mean even when he had just run off I expected more than "oh yeah, he's changed since she died. anyways, let's talk about important stuff..."
From the last x-men movie to this we see wolverine's character go from bad-ass with a soft spot for runaways and hard-luck cases to mr sensitive with claws. Didn't that bother anyone?
Mystique is a fairly important character in many plotlines, and losing her powers like that just jerked me out of the story too much. Even though it seems that the "cure" might not be all it's cracked up to be, seeing that many important characters killed or neutered served more to disrupt the flow of the story than anything else. When mystique lost her powers, scott died, and professor x died... I kind of just had to go "huh?"
None of the new characters seemed fleshed out or inspiring or even interesting really. There was a half hearted attempt to make kitty pride have some depth, but she was really just a plot device thinly disquised as a love interest. I think colosus had almost as many lines in X2 as he did in this movie. Rogue went from being kind of useless but having potential if they played the plot right to being completely useless with almost no hope in sight.
Ah well. Could have been much better and truer to the material. I think they just tried to cover too much with too little directing talent and time. The pheonix saga was cosmic is scope and this felt fairly shallow. At least they've hinted that almost everything they did in this is reversible to some extent (x's death, magneto and mystique losing their powers) and hell phoenix is pheonix right? or... did they turn her into scarlet witch... meh. 5/26/2006 4:03:24 AM |

Worth seeing in theatre for some of the actions scenes. Beast alone I daresay.
I think for/if they were setting up for sequels they didn't pull many punches.

I think this review is pretty accurate:
Quote : | "X-MEN: THE LAST STAND Or, Days of Our Mutant Lives. This third screen outing for Marvel Comics’ signature band of genetically enhanced superheroes is by far the daftest of the lot, and the one in which the stars’ contractual fatigue is evident in the number of major characters who meet their demise before the first couple of reels are up. Those who remain become figures in a sub-soap-opera melodrama involving lovers’ quarrels, miraculous returns from the hereafter and — for those who still don’t get that mutantism is a metaphor for homosexuality — a miracle “cure” that turns mutants into regular joes. Not that Brett Ratner, taking over the director’s chair from Bryan Singer, was recruited for his subtlety: X-Men: The Last Stand is jammed with so much chaotic action and so many unimpressive visual effects that it can barely find time to introduce us to the new characters (including Kelsey Grammer, as the head of a kind of mutants’ Homeland Security Department) who’ve been sprinkled on top like croutons. Nor can Ratner, who directed both Rush Hours, suppress his penchant for Sino-American slapstick long enough to avoid a poorly timed close-up of a dumbstruck Chinese tourist during what’s supposed to be a harrowing bridge collapse. Indeed, long before the movie’s climax, in which Magneto (Ian McKellen) turns smashed-up automobiles into fiery projectiles to be hurled at his enemies, those in the audience will know what it means to behold a flaming hunk of junk." |

There's a slight difference between intolerance of someone because of what they are and being intolerant of egocentrism. I'm not going to get into a nature vs. nurture argument, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say egocentrism isn't something you're usually born with. 5/26/2006 10:49:43 AM |
