i think my parents picked up something online. most likely my dad who can't resist clicking on shit... but...

whenever you use http://www.google.com to search for anything it redirects you to a different off the wall search engine or something else random...

any ideas? (done the usual sweeps but i can't exactly 'google' and answer to this one as it will just give me the wrong site and not the google search results)

additionally NAV will appear to update but the actual 'date' on the update part does not change...

it sounds like somethings put an entry in their HOSTS files to redirect google to pron-r-us or whereever it's sending them

Download Hostfix from Jay Loden (same guy that makes aimfix). Like ^ said, it seems like you have multiple entries in your host file.

Download that file and see if it works. Then update your anti-virus and spyware programs, turn off System Restore (right-click my computer -> properties -> system restore -> turn off), reboot into safe mode (F8 as soon as computer starts to boot back up) and then run all your scans again.

You need a freaking chainsaw to get rid of that shit...unless you use CWShredder. There isn't much in common with all the variants except that they all use the ByteCodeVerifier exploit in the MS Java Virtual Machine. The best way to make sure you don't get it again is to get rid of the MS Java Virtual Machine and use Sun's.
