I stopped playing Doom 3 because I was so scared.
Seriously.
I have never been scared by a horror movie in my life, but Doom 3 scared the shit out of me. 6/2/2006 9:00:45 PM |

System Shock II messed with me pretty bad. Maybe it's because I was playing it in a darkish room, and I'd never played a computer game with surround sound speakers before. 6/2/2006 9:20:53 PM |

That game freaked the hell out of me when I was a kid.
I always hated the dread of walking into a house and seeing Jason's healthbar at the bottom of the screen, but not knowing which room he'd be in...6/2/2006 9:33:53 PM |

I remember playing it (with headphones on) at the Tek and a friend walked up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder and I screamed.
American McGee's Alice had some shit that would make me jump too, but that's because I'd play it at 2am when I wasn't suppose to be up 6/2/2006 10:07:57 PM |

The dog through the window was definitely scarier then
than when it happened a year later in Resident Evil.

When it first came out, Half-Life scared me. I'd be playing it alone and it'd be dark and then BAM! some bullsquid of some shit would appear out of no where and begin to chase me.
It was the AI in that game (which was awesome then, sucks now) and how they knew to hide until they had you outnumbered.

Eternal Darkness did have a couple parts that freaked you out just cause you couldn't tell if you were dreaming or not. Crazy good game too. 6/3/2006 11:44:25 AM |

Hmmm, no mention of Silent Hill. I always heard it was THE scariest series.
Pretty much any Resident Evil game stressed the fuck out of me, especially that part where it's raining and you can only see five feet in front of you. 6/3/2006 11:56:17 AM |

Was Eternal Darkness the one where you would start to go insane and see stuff? I remember watching my roommate play that back in the day and it seemed pretty creepy.
And I was probably more freaked out by Quake when it came out than by Doom. Mainly because it was always so much darker, and the monsters sounded a lot scarier. 6/3/2006 11:59:44 AM |

I am forced to admit Doom 3 as well. I made the mistake of playing it with headpones on. Got about 30 minutes into it and had to uninstall.
Friday the 13th way back in the day used to scare me as well. I only managed to kill him once and then the second go-round he'd pop up at random places and pwn me. 6/3/2006 11:59:58 AM |

Haha in Half-Life 2, that part when you meet the crazy priest on the rooftops and he gives you the shotgun. You would just be walking along and you would hear a loud scream and tons of those monkey/alien things would start running up the side of the building. Yeah that was kinda of creepy.6/3/2006 1:08:48 PM |

Friday the 13th is the first one that I can remember scaring me. Walking around in the cabins knowing that Jason was in there and bound to pop up was frightening when I was young.
Now I can beat that game in my sleep. Definitely a way to win, but you have to kill Jason 3 times.
Resident Evil 2 scared me pretty good when that licker creature busts through the mirror at you early in the police department. My friend threw down the controller when it happened to him in the game which was really funny.
Silent Hill was overall the best horror game I've played though. When you are in the sewers and your radio doesn't work anymore and you just here the clicking of the critters down there on the floors and ceilings it gets pretty intense. Playing in the dark helps. 6/3/2006 2:08:01 PM |

i think the thing that freaked me out the most in eternal darkness was when i was the monk and all of a sudden i warped to world war 1....that shit was nuts. or maybe when you stumble into the bathroom and that girl is laying in the tub dead, or the whole chapter with that fat guy, the whole game was fucking crazy. all of the older scenarios were creepy as hell 6/4/2006 3:57:30 AM |
