I know there's one floating arond for dynamics, was wondering if anyone had one for Fluids.

Failing that, anyone in Cassidy's section that has any clue how to do some of these homework2 problems?

ive got the solutions for another textbook if you want some more sample problems

but since you are asking for solutions and not help i doubt thats what you want

Actually I am indeed looking for more sample problems - that would be most excellent. Anything to explain it better than this sorry excuse for a textbook.

Okay, the answers he provided for the first question must be wrong. Anyone else getting -1.405 kN for FRx?

V1 = 2 m/s
V2 = 15 m/s

P1,gage = 114.4 kPa

Do those intermediate results look correct? For the life of me I can't figure out what is missing...

Guess this is mostly directed at lumbeestud.

If you check back later in this message board...I think the topic was Gould MAE 308 there are solutions on there. Cassidy is working under Dr. Gould their homework should be pretty similar

A helicopter of mass 10,000 kg hovers. Its blades rotate at 400 rpm. The blades cause a 15-m diameter air mass to move downward at an average velocity proportional to the rpm of the blades (V = kw).

Determine the volumetric airflow rate downdraft that the helicopter generates.

The density of air is 1.8 kg/m3.

yeah i had that exact HW problem. I still have all my homeworks from his class last year and I guarantee he gives the same problems. Anyways the answers are:

(a) volumetric flowrate = 3832.94 m^3/s
required power input = 1064 kW

(b) required RPM = 632.5 RPM
required power input = 4200 kW

Okay I just made a copy of that packet outside his office. I'll be studying tonight, Saturday daytime, and all of Sunday. If you get stuck on a problem, post which one and if I have time I'll post the solution. I would scan and post the entire thing, but it's 21 pages long, my scanner sucks, and I don't have the patience.

8 or 9 problems.

Four or five of those problems will be short, not full calculations. Might be multiple choice.

The other four or five will be full homework/test quality questions.

8:00 am Monday.

Don't worry about fully solving Navier-Stokes equations, just be familiar with how they work.
