I think it's going to be hard to be an AMD advocate in the upcoming year. From what I've seen, AMD's response hasn't been all that impressive. Anyone know if they have something up their sleeves?

Haha no, I'm just starting to regret building the AMD machine I put together. 6/8/2006 5:45:37 PM |

The reason all this is happening is because Intel is losing it's ass in every market it's in except mobile.
And Core2 Extreme vs FX-52 is like Ferrari vs. Lambourghini.
AKA it doesn't mean a goddamn thing to 99.5% of us. 6/8/2006 6:05:04 PM |

i doubt that intel will cut prices 60% and stay in business. and i think the am2 was abou the shitest excuse for amd to get poeple to go out and buy new mobos cpus and ram.amd is still my choice for now, but i have to admit i want 1 of those 805 pentium ds. 6/8/2006 6:07:38 PM |

they are actually.
Because they are coming out with the Core2 chips, but won't be able to ramp up production until well into next year, so they are going to firehouse sell all of their netburst architecture stuff to get it out and try and bring people back. 6/8/2006 6:15:42 PM |

^ Why are you even bitching? The fx-60 is pretty much top of the line. Your need to upgrade is so small that it's ridiculous 6/8/2006 11:04:36 PM |

horse-racing is the stupidest thing in the world. If you think one is better... buy it... but shut up.
(I know nobody's really horse-racing in this thread.... yet, but still... does it really matter?) 6/9/2006 12:30:19 AM |

^^ ^ Hah, I'm not complaining. I'm just so used to AMD being the choice for high end performance and performance per watt and performance per dollar that this possible reversal seems pretty interesting. But hey, if you don't agree that's fine. Maybe you should just shut up yourself and stop bitching?
Seriously though, I'm not complaining or bragging or trying to horserace. I'm somewhat sad that my favorite brand isn't looking so hot anymore, but I'm glad intel's pushing things in terms of price and performance. I think this kind of thing could be pretty good for us consumers down the line as long as intel doesn't use it's warchests to simply undercut AMD out of the market in a lot of areas. That's probably the only thing I'm really WORRIED about here, that intel could just sell chips in the midrange and low end of performance at a loss until AMD is unable to compete and innovate. Anyone know how good their cash supplies are or how much of a threat this price-down is to AMD?
