Hey, i need a someone who knows (actually KNOWS) how to install a ceiling fan with a present light only set up.

check out the pictures, the fan will need lights too (so also need to know if there is enough electricity to operate the fan and like 3 lights on the fan)

I'll guess I'll start at $20.....I live in University Suites (Intersec. Tryon/Trailwood)

depends on how the existing socket is installed. Could be a pretty easy 45min job, could take a few hours. Either way, yes there's enough electricity to power the fan and lights.

It's not that hard...humandrive installed mine and vacuumed my room in like 30 minutes.

Try to do it yourself. It will be a good learning experience. Most likely, all the tools you'll need is a pocket knife and a screwdriver.

I'll do it for $20...but it'll have to be tomorrow sometime I guess since I'll need some daylight to see things.


I've installed about a dozen ceiling fans in the last year. And actually installed one today at my parents house.

Do I need the landlords permission?? I live in an apt. complex -- i'll be here for another 1 1/2 years.......it's just so damn hot upstairs in our 2 story townhome

You may want to disconnect the light and check to see if the junction box is metal or plastic. If it's plastic, you'll have to replace that with a metal one before you can mount a ceiling fan on it.

That may not be DIY-able in an apt.

It's fucking stupid to mount a ceiling fan on a plastic junction box. It may hold, but it may come crashing down as well. The plastic boxes are not rated to hold the weight of a ceiling fan.
