Is it proper to tip for a haircut? If so, how much? I have from time to time when I thought they did a great job, but I'm not consistant.

$12 haircut
$3 tip

i hate paying more than $15 for a haircut so if the haircut is $13 i usually tip $2

i don't go to more expensive places

if a waiter fucks up your meal, you just had a bad dinner

if a barber fucks up your hair, you have a bad week

tip your barber

If you go back to the same place each time, definitely... how much is up to you.

If you go to the same person each time, tip at least 25%.

I usually tip between $3 and $5 depending on where I go. If I go to Sports Clips and get the triple play or MVP (gotta love that hot steam towel massaged on your face) is when I'll tip $5

i used to tip $5,
but with my new hair stylist she always goes they extra step and shows me new ways to style my hair or easy ways to make it look good.. plus she always contacts me when she's having special rates on haircuts or coloring
so i usually tip her $10

id probably tip 10 if the girl i went to didnt own the salon.

30 isnt unreasonable for a quality haircut for a guy. i highly prefer not to go to fantastic sams or something. I usually only get a cut maybe 4 times a year also.

I asked what a good tip was the last time I got mine cut. The lady said one or two bucks is shitty....Five bucks is a good tip supposedly.

$30 isn't bad if you only get a cut 4 times a year, b/c it's probably a lot of work.....but if its a monthly trim, $30 is crazy.

I just break out the shaver every month or so, 1/2 inch guard and i'm good to go, for free.

when i used to go to the barber i'd be in the chair for literally 2 minutes tops (i have a buzz, and cut my own hair now).

one lady would just charge me for the kids' cut since it was so quick - i'd tip her real well.

everyone else charged me the full $13, so i'd tip like $1 maybe 2.

i think you tip on how much effort she/he puts into your hair - they scratch out a simple trim, give em a simple tip. they go the extra mile, or use hot towels etc, tip them better.

I like to go to cheap places (like Great Clips) and tip too much. During the holidays, I may leave $30-$40 to cover a twelve dollar haircut. Typically, I leave $20-$25 though.

However, I'm also one of those people who does not feel obligated to tip. If you provided me with crappy service (of any kind), I won't leave an obligatory two dollars, I'll leave nothing.

the last haircut i got took over an hour for what should have been a 15 minute hair cut.... the lady was soooooooooo slow. what's worse is it was a pretty bad haircut. i still gave her $5 though, she was nice i think she was new to cutting hair.

Does the 15% rule only apply to waitstaff tipping? My haircuts usually cost about $12 and I tip $2.

same here because i found out that just shaving it all off once a month works fine...and going to SPorts Clips and paying 14 bucks for a 2 minute electric shave is ridiculous..

I think I usually tip around 20% although I say "think" because it definitely depends on the stylist. If he/she did a great job I'm definitely more generous than if I get someone that just goes through the routine.

There's no way I'm tipping the woman who cuts my hair since she owns the place. If she wants more money, she can charge more. And then I'll go elsewhere.

i wish i hadn't tipped the woman who just cut my hair. i made her do it twice and it still wasn't right. i came home and had my husband take the scissors to my hair to fix her screw up.
