This is ridiculous. Amato is no Pete Carroll, but worst in the nation?....come on. Amato worse than Bunting? No Way. At least he gave Bunting an honorable mention. 6/28/2006 5:15:22 PM |

the sole problem with our football team is that nobody can understand what the hell coach says in the locker room before the games.

actually the sole problem with our football team is that at any given time we can put 10 talented offensive players on the field, 11 talented defensive players on the field, and 11 talented special teamers on the field.
But if you consistently get the worst quarterback play in the country, it's tough to succeed. 6/28/2006 6:58:09 PM |

No he's not the worst coach in D-I. But I think the point of the article was to note on how much talent comes through NCSU, and this is what Chuck has done with it. er something. But no, he's definitely not the worst D-I coach. 6/28/2006 11:06:12 PM |

as an overall package (recruiting included) he isnt the worst coach in d-1...
but as a tactical coach he's pretty damn terrible. I can count the times on one hand that I remember thinking we werent outcoached during the game under his regime....
His game preparation stinks and he's unable to get a team to be consistent over the course of a season (think of the '02 collapse, the '05 start, etc)
he makes stupid decisions like kicking FG's at the end of the game when we're down 7 (VT this year)
our players constantly commit deadball penalties and lack discipline...
Three first round picks and we had to squeeze out bowl eligibility in a weak conference? I know our QB play was atrocious, but should it really take 1.5 seasons of misery before someone decides to utilize the running game instead?? 6/28/2006 11:06:42 PM |

i agreed with most of what you said except for this. i mean the ACC isn't the MAC, the Mountain West, or even the Big Least. the ACC is one of the most talent loaded conferences in the country as exhibited by this past years draft.6/28/2006 11:16:28 PM |

the defense in the ACC was great for the most part, but their were hardly any good QB's last year which led to a lot of anemic offenses. the ACC didn't have any NC caliber teams, but did have plenty of teams that could beat nearly anybody in the country on any given day. there was a lot of parity, and the teams beat up on each other, like the way the SEC is usually. the jury's still out on whether that was a good thing or a bad thing for the league. i mean VT was considered the NC contender out of the league but promptly got beat down by a Miami team that goes on to lose to an ok GT team at the OB. then VT loses to a 4 loss FSU team in the ACCCG. it was one batshit crazy year for ACC football. 6/28/2006 11:28:03 PM |
rallydurham Suspended 11317 Posts user info edit post |
yeah i can see where you're going with that... overall it was fairly weak though... we didnt fare well outside the conference thats for sure.
it doesnt matter, we're never going to amount to shit as long as we have a QB who cant run or pass for first downs...
theres no reason to get all worked up about NC State football, just enjoy the beer, music, friends, & food at the tailgate.
Tailgating also gives you a perfect opportunity to meet 18 year girls, so seriously let the football stuff go and just concentrate on whats important.
College football is such a sub-standard product anyway, save your energy for the NFL. 6/28/2006 11:31:50 PM |

He's a hell of a fundraiser and a decent recruiter but I agree he's a bad sideline coach and he doesn't seem to be able to reach the players.

Amato isn't a great coach right now, but to call him the worst is a little asinine. I mean there are a couple in this conference that are above Amato in that regards. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Amato a 6 due to the past two years. Once we fix the offense, and hopefully the defense doesn't fall off too much from the past two years, then we should be a good team. 6/29/2006 8:59:36 AM |

I'm just saying our players the last two seasons were good enough to do a lot better than they did, but they didn't because they had no leadership
I always got the impression that Rivers was always basically like the coach on the field which was fine except we don't have a replacement for that now, including the actual coach 6/29/2006 10:03:39 AM |

With Brown and Baker, Stone SHOULD improve. I mean this will be his 4th year on the team and working out. He has the same coordinator this year so no excuses. Put up or let's see Evans or Burke.

we had top 10 D's the past 2 seasons, but didn't get a bowl one year, and barely squeaked into one last year....mainly b/c our offense usually looked like they placed a bet on the other team to win. 6/29/2006 10:05:35 AM |
