Well i just set up my first water cooling rig... ill post pics shortly... its real nasty looking...
BUT. Unfortunately i maxxed my Barton 2500+ out at 2.19 Ghz.... a pretty good increase from the 1.833, but my shitty mobo only went up to 199 Fsb.... Oh and the temp never got over 27 degrees celsius in an hour of prime 95 and 3d mark06. At stock fsb and vcore the temp hovered right around 20 degrees celsius.
Heres my specs: Athlon Xp 2500+ ABIT KW7 OCz gold ddr 400 Leadtek Geforce 6800
So.... My next project... buying some better OCing parts/making all the tubing and shit look professional... Any suggestions on best CPUs/GPUs for overclocking on a gaming based rig?(and good mobo to go with them also ) 7/1/2006 8:38:55 PM |

intel 805, asus or abit motherboard with an intel chipset, 800mhz ddr2 at outpost, and that 7900gt on sale on slickdeals
[Edited on July 1, 2006 at 10:25 PM. Reason : edit: those results are attainable on air] 7/1/2006 10:09:56 PM |

yes... those results are... but i didnt add glycol to the mix yet... thats was just a test run... The chiller i have goes down to negative 15 C... I figured i didnt need to go that far with the crap i have now... but when i get new stuff i will take it there... Just need to work at insulating everything... and maybe buying a dehumidifier 7/1/2006 10:29:05 PM |

is that really true, i've been thinking about getting some for mine, just because my thermaltake beetle's fan is fucking up, well, my 3.6 intel is clocked up to 4.2 and stays at 25-30 C, but water cooling sounds like too big of a hassle if i can get such low temps with just an aftermarket fan7/2/2006 1:56:45 AM |

yes, it's a waste. air cooling has come a long way since 1999 7/2/2006 3:14:48 AM |

i don't know shit about pc cooling devices, so perhaps someone can enlighten me.
is watercooling silent? if so, i think that's a distinct advantage over conventional fans, even if the water cooling components are overpriced. 7/2/2006 3:31:05 AM |

no it is not. water cooling requires fans on the radiator as well as a water pump. 7/2/2006 4:31:37 AM |

most watercooling systems end up being louder than a decent air-cooled setup 7/2/2006 4:10:20 PM |

no doubt... the compressor on my chiller is loud as fuck ... but i dont know about what you said earlier... It might not be a viable thing for your average user... But if you have the spare change you can get some reall performance boosts... And its also a better use of spare time than many other things.... 7/2/2006 5:10:03 PM |

but what are you using those "boosts" for? I mean if you are a folding@home junkie or something, or using it as a renderfarm machine then i could maybe see the point. 7/2/2006 9:28:26 PM |

yea either get the 805, or opteron 144 should be able to find both for under 120$. if u're only gaming the 144, if u're multitasking 805. my opteron is chillin at 3 ghz (fx-57 is 2.8ghz). my load temps stay under 45c, i'm runing the retail amd heatpipe hsf which cost me 10$. 7/2/2006 9:45:11 PM |

Mmmmm....F@H.... <---ranked ~2,500 in the project with ~340,000 points. Used to do it a lot more when I had access to more computers. And yes overclocking does have some benefit for something like that, but for right now it doesn't make webpages open any faster and Word doesn't open up any faster, etc. 7/3/2006 12:47:43 PM |
