-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie tight end T.J. Williams likely will miss the entire 2006 season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon during Thursday’s mandatory mini-camp practice at One Buccaneer Place, team sources have told PewterReport.com. The 6-foot-2, 253-pound Williams entered the NFL with the Bucs in April as a sixth-round pick out of North Carolina State.
Williams is the second Bucs player to sustain a season-threatening injury over the past three weeks. In mid-June, quarterback Luke McCown suffered a partially torn ACL during a voluntary workout at One Buc Place.
On Monday morning, PewterReport.com witnessed McCown walking into One Buc Place on crutches with a heavily bandaged knee brace, which suggests he has already underwent knee surgery.
The Buccaneers have not placed Williams on injured reserve, although they likely will do that before the team reports to training camp on July 27. In the meantime, the Bucs have six healthy tight ends – Alex Smith, Anthony Becht, Dave Moore, Mark Anelli, Boone Stuz and Tim Massaquoi – on their offseason roster.
Tampa Bay remains hopeful that McCown, who likely will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, will be able to play at some point during the 2006 regular season. " |
