So I just got one of these and every time I plug it into a computer all this U3 Smart software autoruns and it's pretty annoying. I also noticed that when I plug the thing in, it makes an F: Drive that is read-only and holds all that U3 stuff with the autorun.inf file and then it makes a G: drive that keeps all of my data. I tried editing the autorun.inf but of course, its read-only. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of that stuff or at least how to keep it from automatically coming up on every pc I plug it into? 7/3/2006 2:37:41 PM |

Ok, I wasn't sure if I could format that read only drive it makes, I'll try that. 7/3/2006 3:26:18 PM |

Ok, windows thinks that F drive it sets up is a CD-ROM drive for some reason so it won't let me do anything to that drive.
^Sounds like you've seen this before, any advice? 7/3/2006 7:25:11 PM |

I briefly searched for a info on how to deactivate it and had reformatted the drive. After about 5 minutes I gave up and just gave it to one of my friends and bought a drive without the u3 technology. That was like 2 days after the drives came out though, I'm sure googling long enough would come up with a solution
I have seen links to supposed u3-remover software. try at your own risk...

I should have thought to look for a U3 uninstaller program. After a couple of hits on google I found a forum of people having the same problem and it turns out the Geek Squad requested the uninstaller from U3 for internal use and it leaked. The uninstaller worked like a charm. 7/3/2006 9:08:23 PM |

I found this link to the U3 Uninstaller that I believe TJ is talking about http://rapidshare.de/files/12773731/U3_Uninstaller.exe.html
And here's the link to U3's official uninstaller http://www.u3.com/uninstall
The files are not exactly the same... but I'm pretty sure it's just a version difference. The one at U3's site looks like the newer version. 7/4/2006 4:42:03 AM |

^ haha, yeah I thought it sounded pretty cool too, until I used a drive with it on it. that's when I realized it was really just annoying as hell. 7/4/2006 11:58:05 AM |

Yeah, it sounds really cool but then you actually use it and you realize its annoying as hell.
Anyways, the uninstaller I found was 2.47mb I think, I can post it if anybody needs it. 7/4/2006 12:25:14 PM |
