Are the problem labs optional?

Yea, they're optional, you just have to have that time frame open when exams/quizzes (depends on the prof if they give quizzes) are given.

i took it this past spring, never went to a problem session

in fact only 2 of the tests were even given during the problem session time period

for the other tests, he asked the class if classtime would be alright w/ everyone
