yeah i have heard 60 days for teh SI from Leith honda on capital blvd
if i am going to wait that long i will wait to the 07's come out 7/5/2006 3:59:49 PM |

I got the same waiting list story from Honda when I asked about it which I think is retarded. There's nothing particularly cool about the civic that would warrant waiting for it specifically.
I think a Sedan Si is supposed to be coming out soon too.

I've never driven the new Si (fuckyouverymuch, honda) but I will say that the GTI felt very solid and composed. 7/5/2006 4:42:24 PM |

GTI is defitely a comparable model to the SI but ihave heard many good things about teh SI over the GTI and the price take is a couple thousand less as far as i know
and i agree a waitlist for a honda is fucking gay, they are stifiling the supply on purpose, but WTF are you gonna do? 7/5/2006 4:53:36 PM |

I know where you can get a good deal on an '03 RSX-S. But then again, I traded it because it decided to start grinding up connecting rod bearings. Nothing like checking your oil and finding parts of your engine in it.
Also, no, the RSX-S does not come with anything other than leather. There is no cloth option. 7/5/2006 8:35:01 PM |

Isn't the RSX-S basically a more expensive Civic Si? I think that's why Honda stops making RSX-S 7/5/2006 9:38:00 PM |

a guy i work with just got his si in about 2 weeks ago.....we are going to the track sometime around the end of the month after he breaks it in. I've been seeing time slips of mid-low 14s with just basic bolt-on.......but there seems to be a wide range of times......don't really know what that's all about, maybe some kids just can't drive.
i thought i heard somewhere that the 07 si was going to be a sedan model
and for who ever said they didn't want a first year model.....1) it's honda 2) the motor is not a first year motor 7/6/2006 12:48:45 AM |

07 will feature a sedan model SI in addition to the coupe
Quote : | "and for who ever said they didn't want a first year model.....1) it's honda 2) the motor is not a first year motor" |
please do not misunderstand me when i say i dont want a first year of a new generation.... it is not because i dont trust honda or their cars, it is because there will always be minor flaws in the design that will cause noises and rattles that are usually fixed within the next production year
also i have been hearing some issues, thought not major ones, with the DBW throttle.... which i am sure Honda will resolve in the next model year
most any car magazine that rates cars will also say not to but the first year model for these reasons and others... nothing bad about the car just as always, with a new design comes minors annoyances7/6/2006 8:13:54 AM |

i didn't say it handled better
but it would have about a 60 hp advantage after a chip 7/6/2006 2:51:37 PM |
SaabTurbo All American 25459 Posts user info edit post |
Well, not that it even matters but how much power/torque does a "chipped" GTI tend to make?
My point was just that the K20 responds well to modifications and I'd rather have an SI. I think you're mistaking what I said for something along the lines of "The k20 is better for modifications."

Off Topic: My sister-in-law has a 06 Civic EX ... I drove it around this weekend while in Minnesota.
I've never owned a Civic before, but the suspension on that thing is stiff as a rock. I could feel every bump in the road. I liked the unique gauge setup, but it's definately not a comfy cruising car (even my scoobie is more comfy).

the rabbit hasn't technically been around for years, but it will be back as an econo model.
anyway, i encourage anyone on the market to drive drive the GTI & Si back to back. a friend of mine was dead sold on an Si until i dragged him down the the VW dealership. Guess which car he bought?

Just to continue a thought from earlier:
Stock for stock there is not much difference in acceleration between the two. I'd imagine the GTI costs at least $2000 more than the SI to begin with. With that $2000, plus the $400 you've alloted for the ecu upgrade I would say the SI will be very competitive with if not better than the chipped GTI.
Also note that while the 0-60 times vary slightly stock for stock (6.6 vs. 6.3) the SI has to shift to 3rd before 60mph. In R&T's road test the SI actually starts to pull from the GTI past 100mph (0-110 in 20.7 seconds vs. 21.4) even though it was slower to 60 by 3 tenths. 220+whp is easily obtained with that k20, not to mention the SI has a 300lb weight advantage.

I prefer hatchbacks to coupes.
The Euro Civic-R hatch, for instance, rapes the living shit out of the Si coupe on all fronts: Style, performance, awesome factor.
I also think that in comparison tests, the GTI's motor and chassis wasn't as crisp and responsive as the Si's. Now I haven't driven an Si, but I would venture a guess that while the VW had great low end grunt, the Si top end, lighter weight, and excellent transmission made it a more agile kat.
VW needs to learn to shed weight from its vehicles. 7/7/2006 10:25:47 AM |

the type R SI in europe is def a beast, but i cannot look at that thing, it is so ugly, it is worse than the 05 hatchback
but i would def appriciate it if honda put a 220 horse motor in the American SI, why do we always get the shaft? 7/7/2006 10:40:54 AM |

upper 200s chip alone.. 300whp shouldnt be that hard to obtain with bolt ons
Quote : | "the rabbit hasn't technically been around for years" |
not since '84...
Quote : | "is it just me or is the golf, rabbit, and gti all the same fucking car?" |
rabbit and a golf are the same car, basically. the rabbit ('74-'84) was called a golf in everywhere except north america. it wasnt called the golf here until the 2nd generation. the rabbit name is being reintroduced for hte new generation.
the GTI is the sporty version of the rabbit/golf. it is basically a trim level. so it would be a "Rabbit GTI" or "Golf GTI"
Quote : | "why do the mk4 gtis have rabbits on them?" |
the only mk4 that had a rabbit on it is the 20th anniversary edition, which is the 20th anniversary (2003) of the rabbit GTI in america
