If you like the look of the crib and are handy, there is solid wood underneath so the paint can be stripped away and the wood refinished. I believe it is oak.
The bars meet modern space standards, so baby can't get his/her head through there. Both sides drop independently, so you can face the crib either way without causing problems. Mattress support can be raised high enough for easy co-sleeping with the side dropped down.
Mattress is included if wanted.
