i have a miles card with discover
1 mile for every $1 spent
my credit limit is only $1500 but i pay it off like 3 times a month
from what i've heard a lower line of credit is sometimes better because you're a lower risk because you can't get yourself into that much debt 7/16/2006 11:17:03 PM |

any more than three cards and you are going to get yourself in trouble.
A main card (Citibank Dividends or similar), an emergency backup (usually an Amex / Blue), and a gas or store card is all anyone should really be carrying.
And if your CC company won't raise your limit, you probably don't really need to raise it. I keep having to refuse them raising my limit every couple of months. 7/17/2006 12:29:18 AM |

i like it when they raise my limit. for one thing, as i understand, your credit score is partially a function of your unexpended credit (i.e., having credit available improves your score).
mostly, though, i just like having that option on the table. my roommate and I just bought jet skis with out credit cards, because we have such low interest rates. we couldn't have gotten loans at comparable rates from a bank, and it would've been much more of a pain to do it that way (i basically never carry a balance on my card--i'll pay it off as soon as my car sells). it's also handy for times like my last move, when I had to rent a Budget truck (and trailer for my car), pay for a hotel for 10 days, etc. The military reimbursed me for everything, but I ended up putting a few thousand dollars on my credit card.
what card to get depends on how you're going to use it. if you're like me and basically never carry a balance, you don't really care what the interest rate is. i just care about the rewards program, and the best thing I've seen is the Chase Rewards Visa (1% rebate on all purchases, 5% on gas/food/medications).
My USAA Mastercard is my other card. It has a larger credit limit (like 5500-6000 or something), and a low interest rate (5-6%, if i remember correctly). It also yields 1% rebates on everything.
if you plan on carrying a balance often...well, don't. but if you do, get a card with a low interest rate. Compound interest is powerful stuff--you don't want to be on the losing end of it. 7/17/2006 1:13:50 AM |

USAA is the shit if your eligible, I have had it since I was 16 and have been pleased. They get a little wild with raising your credit limit if you pay your bill in full when you make large purchases.
