the first two or three times i backed-up a movie the proccess was pretty quick. under an hour total. but now it takes anywhere between two and four hours just to analyze it, and another hour or so to burn it.
i've got a 16x burner, 2.4 ghz chip, and 1024 ram. i would think that's enough muscle to burn a movie no problem.
the DVD Shrink guide was no help. i tried turning off low priority mode, but that didn't do much.
any suggestions? 7/17/2006 3:06:15 PM |

Have you defragged recently? My computer has pretty much the same specs and it usually takes like 45 mins. 7/17/2006 3:32:58 PM |

i would suggest defragging to see if there's an improvement. also, be sure it is burning at the maximum 16x speed. 7/17/2006 3:59:12 PM |

I've got a 2.8ghz, 2gb ram, 72gb raptor hard drive system and i backup dvds with both quality options enabled.
with those quality options enabled, it can take 2 hours to backup a dvd (almost all encoding, maybe 10mins to burn). I havent tested how long with them off.
i would uninstall, reinstall, make sure quality options are not checked them report back. 7/17/2006 4:47:09 PM |

im actually experiencing the same problem, ran fast first couple of times, now its slowing down. encoding takes cloes to two 2hrs compared to like 45mins when 1st installed. it also slows down the whole comp, which didnt happen previously. i have core duo and i was able to encode and game at the same time previously but not anymore. 7/18/2006 10:23:36 AM |

im thinking my problem is caused by not having enough HDD space. but then again it might be the quality options that i choose, burning dvds now takes 1hr when it used to take 30mins or my burner is halfway to kaput 7/19/2006 9:31:11 AM |

YOU'RE ALL GOING TO JAIL
and on that note, my computer takes forever to backup a movie also. It used to take about 30-45 min for the deep analysis and rip, and an additional 13 to burn. Now it takes an hour for both the analysis and rip, and about 45 minutes to burn!
It's probably the computer though, I've had it since 2001. It's a 1.7GHz P4, 512MB RDRAM ( ), 100s of GBs of freshly-defragged hard disk space, and a 16x burner. 7/19/2006 10:58:12 AM |

for the record, just last night i installed a 300 gig hard drive, and since doing that, the performance still hasn't changed.
it just pisses me off that i know that my system CAN do better, but for some reason won't. 7/22/2006 4:40:39 AM |

i fixed my problem. the ide channel was changed from dma to pio thus slowing down the comp. 7/23/2006 10:42:04 AM |
