Since the other thread is dead and gone (90 days already? really?) let's use this thread for the Atlanta folk to talk about events etc.

So, come see The Lazy Sundays play at 10 High Club (Under Dark Horse in the VA Highlands)
Wednesday, July 26th 9PM. Expect a $5 cover, and two other bands are scheduled too.

http://www.myspace.com/thelazysundays

If you've never seen them, this is a good way to start. They are normally a rather strictly acoustic group, but are adding Drums/Bass and some extra guitars...as well as 2 new songs, to this next show.

What are you up to?

says hi!

In honor of all the fun going on in the middle east, I'm going to Rumi's Kitchen (http://www.rumiskitchen.com/) for some persian food tomorrow.

Other than that, Tom Petty goes on sale this week. I'm trying to salvage a big lack of music this summer in Atlanta b/c of the loss of Music Midtown and Downtown Rocks...

Medieval Times opens up next month at Discover Mills. I tried to volunteer to be a knight, but all they had to offer at the time was a falconer position...

It's ok I never noticed the sign for it until someone pointed it out. It's on Ponce across from N. Highlands (VA Highlands bar street) in the same center as the Righteous Room and the Majestic.

On the evening of Saturday July 9th, a close friend of Parkers lost control of her truck while re-parking it in the lot fronting Liberty Tattoo on Ponce de Leon. The truck drove through the front window of the tattoo shop, pinning Justin Parker and crushing his legs. He was transported to Grady Hospital where both legs were amputated. Justin is a self-employed carpenter supporting a wife and two small children, and has no health insurance. Parker, 34, is a lifelong Atlanta resident and an enthusiastic participant in Atlantas skateboard, dirt bike and alternative music scenes. He was the drummer of Reeb (beer spelled backwards), a local punk band.He and his family have a long, costly, and difficult road ahead.

Since the accident, the Atlanta community has rallied around the Parkers. Friends, bands, tattoo shops, motorcycle shops, and other local businesses are helping to raise funds for the family of Justin Parker

1) What area of town do you want to live in?
2) How much can you spend?

can you define cheap?

seems like the best deals are on craigslist with people renting out duplexes and basement/attic apartments, if you're into that sort of thing

I guess a couple other good questions would be:

3) Would you be ok with a loft? Or are you looking only at apartments?
4) Any amenities or things you must have?

As far as what town...I have no idea. I will be working at the bars in and around Atlanta so I'd need to be within driving distance (30 minutes) but I also don't know how living in the city would be since I've never been to Atlanta.
For the money issue...I've been renting a 2 bedroom in Raleigh for 700 a month and I wouldn't mind getting a place by myself. How much are one bedroom places running in Atlanta?

I'll definately check craigslist. I would love a loft. I think they are great and I have most of the furniture I would need but might just go with furnished until I can buy my own new stuff since I have college hand-me-down type furniture.

If you are looking for a loft, DEFINITELY try craigslist. Fulton Cotton Mill lofts are nice and I've got some friends living in those. It's smack dab in the middle of town, so you can get around easily to local bars.

[Edited on August 4, 2006 at 11:57 PM. Reason : I'll have to check with one of my friends for pricing there.]

yeah, craigslist sounds like your best bet. last year at this time $700 was on the low end of 1 bedrooms in apartment complexes here. i just resigned my lease for $770/mo which is still considered cheap.

Just moved into the ATL region (if you consider Braselton ATL).

Tried going to the Mall of GA on Taxfree weekend... what a fucking mistake. This place sucks. Its a good thing I don't have to leave my damn house if I don't want.

Well yeah, out in the sticks Maugan. But you're hard pressed to find much for that especially inside the perimeter. I hate thinking of what i used to pay per month

unfortunately, no you can't. i've been looking for a while. i'd say the average price for a modest sized house (~1200 sf) in okay shape inside the perimeter is around $225k. and by okay shape i mean its livable but probably needs $10K in repairs. condo's go for a little cheaper, but are still mega expensive for what they are. i've looked at some small 700sf condo's that start at $180k. its really outrageous.

i guess i could live out in braselton or winder, but the 15 minute commute to work is worth the premium.

braselton is nice though, not much out there besides the race track (road atlanta) though.

Not really. My ex bought a condo three years ago in Mid-town for like 80k, and just moved into a new one for 115K. Old one was like 500sq ft, new one is like 850 ish

yeah, for some reason, prices in midtown are somewhat lower. the only problem is, well, you have to live in midtown. but whatever works. i'm not hating, its just not my style.

Plz to not shoot me -- make it someone riding solo in the HOV lane or better yet if anyone tries to jump off a bridge or crane again...

I was at the clermont lounge friday night. blondie told my friend that she thought he was gay. the only way to prove he wasn't was to get a lap dance from her. so i then sat and watched the ageless wonder, blondie, crush beer cans with her boobies while she crushed my friend's lap.

Saturday night i went to cosmo lava (or something like that) in midtown. this girl who was 6'1" came up and hit on me. so we danced. dancing around us was a group of about six or seven midgets. i thought how strange, the girl i'm dancing with is 4x as tall as these men dancing around me. I left lava, met some homeless dude named michael. i walked him to the chevron station on north ave to buy him a 40, then walked home.

I think I'm starting to really love this city.
