Durham and Winston Salem have their days but Duke and Wake are only good in a handfull of non-revenue sports. The students and alumni from NCSU and UNC strive to make life as hard or harder for those misfortunate souls wearing the other colors. Although UNC has an edge in football, they are they oldest state university in the USA. Our humble beginnings as an Ag/Engineering/Military school prevented us from having many successful football teams in the early histories. Also, the first 50 years of the NCSU/UNC rivalry were played at Chapel Hill because we didn't have a fulltime football team. (Everyone was in the Army) In the history of the state, NCSU has produced military leaders while UNC has produced politicians. (The most 4 star generals have come from NCSU than any other school except for West Point) There is a long history between NCSU and UNC fans. There are distinct differences in how we think and get along. Throw in Duke and Wake Forest and you have the most religious college sports fanatics in one place at one time than anywhere else in the world. > NEW!
